What Does God Say Is Immoral?

The Holy Bible is God's guiding light for humanity. It shows us what is right, and what is wrong, based upon the infinite wisdom and knowledge of Almighty God, our Creator. Although some seem offended by the fact, God really does know better than we do. Like a parent telling a young, unwitting child not to gleefully touch something that will injure them, God gives us His laws to keep us happy and healthy. Immoral behavior, as defined by God, is a journey into certain misery. Increasingly, it also results in devastating illness, and even death. Ultimately, it can cause the loss of eternal life itself.

Bible What Does God Say?

"You shall not commit adultery." (Exodus 20:14 RSV) (see The Ten Commandments and The Ten Commandments Now?)

"And you shall not lie carnally with your neighbor's wife, and defile yourself with her." (Leviticus 18:20 RSV)

"He who commits adultery has no sense; he who does it destroys himself." (Proverbs 6:32 RSV)

"But fornication and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you." (Ephesians 5:3 RSV)

"Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." (Galatians 5:19-21 RSV)

"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination." (Leviticus 20:13 RSV)

"Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error." (Romans 1:26-27 RSV)

"The law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, immoral persons, sodomites, kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine." (1 Timothy 1:9-10 RSV)

Consequences

"Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 RSV)

"just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire." (Jude 1:7 RSV)

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 RSV)
