Blasphemy

Blasphemy is from the Greek word blasphemia, which literally means to speak harm. From a religious point of view, it generally means the utmost disrespect or defiance toward God. Blasphemy has been known throughout Bible History, however Prophecy speaks loud and clear that the greatest blasphemy that the world will ever know is yet to occur.

Hitler Blaspheming The Name Of God

"And say to the people of Israel, Whoever curses his God shall bear his sin. He who blasphemes The Name of The Lord shall be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him; the sojourner as well as the native, when he blasphemes The Name, shall be put to death." (Leviticus 24:15-16 RSV) [see The Ten Commandments and The Ten Commandments Now?]

Idolatry Is Blasphemous

"Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, Thus says The Lord God: In this again your fathers blasphemed Me, by dealing treacherously with Me. For when I had brought them into the land which I swore to give them, then wherever they saw any high hill or any leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices and presented the provocation of their offering; there they sent up their soothing odors, and there they poured out their drink offerings. I said to them, What is the high place to which you go? So its name is called Bamah to this day. Wherefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Will you defile yourselves after the manner of your fathers and go astray after their detestable things? When you offer your gifts and sacrifice your sons by fire, you defile yourselves with all your idols to this day." (Ezekiel 20:27-31 RSV) [see Images and Idols]

Jesus Blasphemously Accused Of Blasphemy By The Unbelievers

"But Jesus was silent. And the high priest [see Caiaphas] said to Him, "I adjure You by the living God, tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God." Jesus said to him, "You have said so. But I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." Then the high priest tore his robes, and said, "He has uttered blasphemy. Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard His blasphemy." (Matthew 26:63-65 RSV)

Blasphemy By Ignorance Is Forgivable;
Blasphemy When One Knows Better Is Unforgivable

"I thank Him Who has given me strength for this, Christ Jesus our Lord, because He judged me faithful by appointing me to His service, though I formerly blasphemed and persecuted and insulted Him; but I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus." (1 Timothy 1:12-14 RSV) [see On The Road To Damascus and Paul's Mirror]

"And every one who speaks a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven." (Luke 12:10 RSV)

"Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin" - for they had said, "He has an unclean spirit." (Mark 3:28-30 RSV) [see The Unpardonable Sin]

End-Time Blasphemy - The Worst The World Will Ever Know

"And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems upon its horns and a blasphemous name upon its heads. And the beast that I saw was like a leopard, its feet were like a bear's, and its mouth was like a lion's mouth [see Daniel's Statue]. And to it the dragon [see That Old Serpent] gave his power and his throne [see The Lame Duck] and great authority. One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth followed the beast with wonder. Men worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?" [see Birth Of A Superpower]

"And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words [see The Antichrist], and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months; it opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming His name and His dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven. Also it was allowed to make war on the saints [see What Is A Saint?] and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and tongue and nation, and all who dwell on earth will worship it, every one whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain."

"If any one has an ear, let him hear: If any one is to be taken captive, to captivity he goes; if any one slays with the sword, with the sword must he be slain. Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints."

"Then I saw another beast [see The Two Beasts] which rose out of the earth; it had two horns like a lamb [see The Great False Prophet] and it spoke like a dragon. It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence, and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound was healed. It works great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in the sight of men; and by the signs which it is allowed to work in the presence of the beast, it deceives those who dwell on earth, bidding them make an image for the beast which was wounded by the sword and yet lived; and it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast so that the image of the beast should even speak, and to cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain. Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name."

"This calls for wisdom: let him who has understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number, its number is six hundred and sixty-six." (Revelation 13:1-18 RSV) [see The Mysterious "666"]

"And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and bedecked with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her fornication; and on her forehead was written a name of mystery: "Babylon the great, mother of harlots and of earth's abominations." And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and the blood of the martyrs of Jesus." (Revelation 17:3-6 RSV)
