Providence

The English word providence (from the Latin word providentia, from which provide also originated) literally means foresight, or preparation. From the perspective of The Bible, it is God's furnishing, preservation and rule of all things, with various Bible translations using words such as sustain, uphold, cause and give (among many others) to depict Divine providence.

Earth Providence

Providence is much more a concept than a word, while (no pun intended) it was through the Word of God (i.e. the Logos) that all things were made (John 1:1-14):

"He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." (Colossians 1:17 RSV)

"He reflects the glory of God and bears the very stamp of His nature, upholding the universe by His Word of power" (Hebrews 1:3 RSV)

"My soul clings to Thee; Thy right hand upholds me" (Psalm 63:8 RSV)

"Thou dost cause the grass to grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth" (Psalm 104:14 RSV)

"Thou hast made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting. Thou makest darkness, and it is night, when all the beasts of the forest creep forth. The young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God." (Psalm 104:19-21 RSV)

"Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well." (Matthew 6:31-33 RSV)

"We know that in everything God works for good with those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28 RSV)

"He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding" (Daniel 2:21 RSV)
