Ransom

"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, Godly and respectful in every way. This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the Truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to which was borne at the proper time." (1 Timothy 2:1-6 RSV)

Ransom Paid For The Redemption Of The Repentant

Dove Ransom means the payment for the release of someone, while redemption means to buy back. From the Christian point of view, Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God, gave His life as a ransom to redeem the repentant (i.e. see Planet On Fire!) from death:

"Therefore He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called [see Conversion] may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred which redeems them from the transgressions under the first covenant" (Hebrews 9:15 RSV)

"Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the Church of God [see What Is The Church?] which He obtained with the blood of His Own Son" (Acts 20:28 RSV)

"But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from law, although the law and the Prophets bear witness to it [see Works], the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction; since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:21-24 RSV)

"Do you not know that your body is a Temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price" (1 Corinthians 6:19 RSV) (see Physical and Spiritual Temples)

"He destined us in love to be His sons through Jesus Christ [see Children Of God], according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished upon us." (Ephesians 1:5-8 RSV)

"He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the Kingdom of His beloved Son, in Whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." (Colossians 1:13-14 RSV) (see The Kingdom of God and Why Is Christ Returning?)

"For the grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all men, training us to renounce irreligion and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world, awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for Himself a people of His own who are zealous for good deeds" (Titus 2:11-14 RSV) (see Believers)
