Some facts and figures:

The Pope Vatican City is unique in the world. It is at the same time the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, and actually an independent country. The pope is the only completely sovereign man on earth - he is an absolute ruler who is subject to no other human being's authority, religious or political.

It has a population of less than 1,000.

The Swiss Guards are responsible for the pope's personal security.

Vatican City issues its own currency and postage stamps, has its own flag, diplomatic service, newspaper, railway station, and broadcasting facilities.
