When Could It Happen?

Reports in 1999 that water had begun flowing from the Temple Mount caused some to wonder, based on Ezekiel 47:1-12, if The Return of Jesus Christ was approaching. Are we soon to witness the most spectacular event of all Bible Prophecy? Is there any way to tell when it will happen?

Watch Jesus Christ made very clear that no one knows for sure when His Return will occur -

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." (Mark 13:32).

To predict a specific date, in contradiction of His Word, is something that most people would not want to do. The Bible does however outline certain clearly-defined events that will be happening before The Return. Here are two that are going to be very obvious -

A Temple, or "Holy Place," must be built in order for the prophesied "beast" dictator to cause the described abomination of desolation of it. His power is to last 42 months (3½ years), as does the ministry of the two witnesses. Until a new Temple has been constructed in Jerusalem, and until the beast and the two witnesses are clearly seen to be at work, it would be reasonable to assume that the Return of Christ is at least 42 months from now, and from any given time in the future when those things have not yet begun to happen.

And when The Return does occur, will there be any doubt about it? According to your Bible, the event will be very visible to everyone, everywhere -

  • "At that time the sign of The Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see The Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And He will send His Angels with a loud Trumpet call and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other." (Matthew 24:30-31)
