Chronology Of The Hebrew Scriptures

The Bible does not record dates in the manner that we use today. We are however given sufficient information to enable us to reasonably backward-calculate when major events recorded in the Holy Scriptures occurred, even far back into the Hebrew Scriptures, or "Old" Testament (see The Older Testament) in the "BC" years, the time "Before Christ" - although in reality, we are again living in the time Before Christ (see the Fact Finder question below).

Chronology Of The Hebrew Scriptures

An approximate (historians differ slightly in their calculations) dating of major events of Bible History

Zion

2050 BC - Abraham (see also On His Own Two Feet).
1950 BC - Isaac (see also Isaac's Faith And Obedience).
1900 BC - Jacob, who God renamed Israel (see also Israelite Dynasties).
1800 BC - the Israelites entered Egypt where they remained for over 400 years in eventual slavery in The Land Of Goshen.
1400 BC - Moses and the Exodus (see also What Did The Ten Commandments Look Like?).
1360 BC - Joshua and entry into the promised land (see also "Land On Which You Had Not Labored").
1150 BC - Ruth.
1100 BC - Samuel.
1050 BC - Saul.
1015 BC - King David.
975 BC - Solomon.
935 BC - Division of Israel into 2 kingdoms at the time of Rehoboam, the northern 10 tribes known as the Kingdom of Israel with their capital in Samaria, and the southern 2 tribes known as the Kingdom of Judah with their capital in Jerusalem.
850 BC - Elijah and Elisha (see also Prophets).
740 BC - Isaiah.
721 BC - The fall of the northern Kingdom of Israel to the Assyrians (see The Galilee Captivity and Ancient Empires - Assyria). They were taken away into permanent exile, and became known as the "Lost Ten Tribes of Israel."
625 BC - Jeremiah.
595 BC - Ezekiel.
586 BC - The fall of the southern Kingdom of Judah to the Babylonians (see Why Babylon? and King Nebuchadnezzar). Jerusalem was devastated and the original Temple (see Temples) was destroyed (see also Raiders Of The Lost Ark). The people of the southern kingdom were also taken away into the "Babylonian exile" which lasted until the Babylonian empire itself fell to the Persians.
580 BC - Daniel.
536 BC - King Cyrus of Persia allowed the Jews in Babylon to return to Jerusalem (see Ancient Empires - Persia).
480 BC - Esther.
460 BC - Ezra.
450 BC - Nehemiah.
