Is This Heaven?
In the 1989 movie Field of Dreams, the answer to the somehow suddenly back from the long-dead baseball player's question, "Is this heaven?" as he stood in an Iowa corn field, was "It's Iowa." That movie was just a baseless fiction, but that sort of question from someone who was dead, and the answer from someone who awaits them, will someday be very real. Millions, billions, of people who are not in the first resurrection which will occur at The Return Of Jesus Christ (see Resurrections) are going to awaken later, on earth, all over the earth, and ask, in hundreds of languages, "Is this heaven?" And yes, for many of the people who lived and died in Iowa, the answer will be Iowa, just as the answer will be every other place on earth where people now sleep in their graves (see What Happens When You Die?). The Holy Bible plainly says so.
Is This "Heaven"?
Even far back in the Old Testament (see The Older Testament), Job, for example, knew where "heaven" will be:
"For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at last He will stand upon the earth; and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then from my flesh I shall see God" (Job 19:25-26 RSV)
An example of "Is this heaven?" for the people of Israel and Judah:
"The hand of The Lord was upon me, and He brought me out by the Spirit of The Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; it was full of bones. And He led me round among them; and behold, there were very many upon the valley; and lo, they were very dry. And He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?"
"And I answered, "O Lord God, thou knowest."
"Again he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of The Lord. Thus says The Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am The Lord."
"So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone. And as I looked, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them; but there was no breath in them.
"Then He said to me, "Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says The Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live." So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great host."
"Then He said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, 'Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are clean cut off.' Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says The Lord GOD: Behold, I will open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people; and I will bring you home into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am The Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit [see The Spirit Of God] within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land; then you shall know that I, The Lord, have spoken, and I have done it, says The Lord." (Ezekiel 37:1-14 RSV)
An example of "Is this heaven?" for all of humanity:
"Then I saw a Great White Throne and Him who sat upon it [see also The Throne Of God, From Heaven To Earth]; from His presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the Throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, by what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead in them, and all were judged by what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire; and if any one's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."
"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God [see The City To Come], prepared as a bride adorned for her husband; and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them; He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away."
"And He who sat upon the Throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." Also He said, "Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true." (Revelation 20:11-21:5 RSV)
