"Thy Kingdom Come" - When?

Gospel is one of the most well-known words to Christian-professing people, and yet, as with so many other things, there is a vast difference in its accepted meaning in the minds of people, all of whom claim to be Christian. There is "gospel music," there's the "social gospel," and many more that people have invented for themselves.

Gospel literally means good news, but good news of what? The books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are called "the Gospels," but Gospels of what? In the words of Jesus Christ, "He said unto them, I must preach the Kingdom of God" (Luke 4:43 KJV)

When and Where Did Preaching Of The True Gospel Begin?

Earth The true Gospel was already known to God's people in the Old Testament. Hebrews 11:9-10 states that Abraham "sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: for he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God," see The City To Come and When Did Faith Begin?), but from a New Testament perspective, the true Gospel began with Jesus Christ, after John the Baptist had prepared the way:

"In those days came John the Baptist [see The Elijahs], preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." (Matthew 3:1-3 KJV)

"Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison [see John's Last Days], He departed into Galilee; And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand ... And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people." (Matthew 4:12-17,23 KJV)

From Whom Did The True Gospel Originate?

The true Gospel came from God, and was delivered by Jesus Christ exactly as God commanded Him. Jesus Christ was not at liberty to invent His own "gospel" - and neither is anyone else.

"For I have not spoken of Myself; but the Father which sent Me, He gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that His commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak." (John 12:49-50 KJV)

"Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love Me, he will keep my words [see Do You Know Him?]: and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth Me not keepeth not My sayings: and the word which ye hear is not Mine, but the Father's which sent Me." (John 14:23-24 KJV)

God's Gospel About The Kingdom Of God

The true Gospel is about the coming Kingdom of God:

"He said to them, "I must preach the good news of the Kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose." (Luke 4:43 RSV)

"Pray then like this: Our Father Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come..." (Matthew 6:9-10 RSV)

When Does The Kingdom Of God Begin?

One of the most spectacular prophecies of the Bible involves the establishment of The Kingdom of God at The Return Of Jesus Christ. If the Kingdom of God were here now, the world would not be the Satanic mess that it still is now (see Who Still Rules The World Today?), with so many nations being misled by "slag" politicians (see What Rises To The Top?), many of whom are going to attempt to fight the Messiah when He returns to rule i.e. "These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings" (Revelation 17:14 KJV). When the Kingdom of God is here (and this surely does not apply anywhere on earth now) "they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more" (Micah 4:3 KJV):

"And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold [see Daniel's Statue]; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure." (Daniel 2:44-45 KJV)
