Satan's Throne

"And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith He which hath the sharp sword with two edges; I know thy works and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast My Name, and hast not denied My faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth." (Revelation 2:12-13 KJV)

"Where Satan dwelleth"

Satan is spirit, but he is not omnipresent, he is not everywhere. It's that reality that will make possible Satan's imprisonment for 1,000 years after The Return Of Jesus Christ, and later, after a brief release, his imprisonment forever:

"And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season." (Revelation 20:1-3 KJV)

"And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed The Camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever [carefully note that it's Satan who will be psychologically tormented there forever, not the beast and the false prophet who were burned to complete annihilation there - see What Happens When You Die?]." (Revelation 20:7-10 KJV)

The original Greek word of the New Testament, translated as "seat" in the King James, is pronounced thron-os, and means throne. When the book of Revelation was written, Satan's "seat," or throne, was, for some time, at Pergamos, as stated in the verses in the opening paragraph. Pergamos was the capital city of the Pergamenian kingdom until it joined Rome in 133 BC (see Ancient Empires - Rome). It was thereafter merely the capital of a Roman province (the power was transferred to Rome), and is best known to Bible History as the location of one of the prophetic Seven Churches, whose members at Pergamos no doubt lived in great danger every minute of their lives - lives that were often lost, as happened to Antipas (although those who were martyred were killed only because God permitted it).

Where does Satan dwell now? Where is Satan's throne right now? Although it's all too plain that he influences all of the world (evil and corruption are everywhere, since it's still Satan's world - see Who Still Rules The World Today?), Satan can only be in one place at a time. All rulers have a throne, or seat of government, somewhere, and the evidence of where Satan's throne is located is indicated by where his end-time antichrist, Satan's "front man," not just will be (as described in the verses of Prophecy below), but has been for centuries already. Satan's throne is still in the old neighborhood where humanity was born and raised.

"And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast [see The Antichrist]. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months." (Revelation 13:1-5 KJV)

Fact Finder: (a) Many humans call the earthly city of Jerusalem "the holy city," but God calls it "Sodom and Egypt." Why? (b) What Jerusalem truly will be holy?
(a) See Sodom and Egypt (b) See The City To Come
