"What shall be the sign of Thy coming?"
by Wayne Blank
"Can ye not discern the signs of the times?"
One of the greatest ironies of the coming of the Messiah was that many of those who were the best equipped, culturally and educationally (e.g. see First And Second Comings In Isaiah and The Messianic Psalms, also The First Christian Bible and The "Old Testament" Messiah) to recognize and welcome Him were the very people who not only didn't see and accept who He was, but they rejected Him to an extreme that got Him killed. A perhaps even greater irony (a multi-layer irony, almost a "three dimensional" irony) however is that their refusal and/or inability to see and accept Him as the Messiah fulfilled His mission as the Messiah (see Why Blood?). His rejection and slaughter by His own people was a tragedy, but a vastly greater tragedy would have been if He had not been sacrificed because the world would then still be without a Savior.
With regard to the return of the Messiah, history is about to repeat itself. When He returns, many are again not going to recognize Him as the Messiah - but this time "His people" are those who profess to be Christian. There are a vast number of misled and deceived Christian-professing people (who are misled and deceived because they follow philosophies and political agendas of a man, rather than what is plainly written in the Word of God for all to read, and obey, for themselves - see 1 Year Reading Plan) who are going to make this happen:
"And the woman [i.e. the end-time Roman Catholic Church, which at that time will, because of the last pope's great "miracles" as described in Revelation 13, include most of the Protestant Churches who are going to return to Roman Catholicism out of fear that their salvation is at stake - see also "Come Out Of Her, My People"] and was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the Martyrs of Jesus" (Revelation 17:4-6 KJV)
