Israelite Foreshadows of the Universe City to Come
In The Bible, the English word camp, or encampment, is used to translate the Hebrew word pronounced makh-en-eh, and the Greek word pronounced par-em-bole-ay. Both words are generally defined as a temporary place of habitation, in contrast to a city which is intended to be permanent. A camp is temporary, while a city is forever, just as physical life is temporary, while spiritual life is forever.
During the time of their Wilderness Journey, The Lord gave the Israelites specific instructions on how they were to establish their encampment around The Tabernacle In The Wilderness, all of which was merely a prototype of what is coming when Christ returns:
"And The Lord [see YHVH, Adonai, Jehovah, LORD] spake unto Moses [see also The Education Of Moses] and unto Aaron, saying, very man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, with the ensign [see Ensigns] of their father's house: far off about the tabernacle of the congregation shall they pitch." (Numbers 2:1-2 KJV)
A Future "Camp Of The Saints," and the New Jerusalem
The "camp of the saints," figuratively a "Tent City," will be established at The Return Of Jesus Christ. It will be replaced by the permanent city, the New Jerusalem, after the world has first been completely conquered by Jesus Christ, and then purified by being flooded with fire, just as the world was once purified by being flooded with water.
The "Camp Of The Saints, The Beloved City" that will exist through the 1,000 years after Christ's return and which will exist at the time of the final Judgment:
"And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet [see The Spirit of Antichrist] are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."
Then, The Whole Earth Will Be Purified With Fire:
"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire [see Hydrogen] against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men."
Then, The New Jerusalem. After all has been completed by the Son of God, God the Father is coming to earth:
"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the Tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
