The Foundation Of God's Word
"And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read [see Aliyya and Haftara]. And there was delivered unto Him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written, 'The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.' And He closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on Him. And He began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears." (Luke 4:16-21 KJV)
"This day is this Scripture fulfilled in your ears"
When Jesus Christ attended and taught at Sabbath services, the Hebrew Scriptures were all that existed - there was no "New Testament." His reading from the book of Isaiah (Isaiah 61:1-2) as quoted above makes clear however that those Scriptures were about Him. Along with history and law, the Old Testament has many, many references about the Messiah, as Jesus Christ Himself plainly said. The "Old" Testament is the only Bible that Jesus Christ ever had, or taught from.
But what did the apostles and early church use? The same Bible as Jesus Christ - the so-called "Old Testament." Every reference to the "Scriptures" in the New Testament is referring to the Old Testament.
"And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the Scriptures, Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ." (Acts 17:2-3 KJV) (see also Paul In Athens,

"they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so" (Acts 17:11 KJV)
"Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle [see Paul's Ministry], separated unto the Gospel of God, which He had promised afore by His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead" (Romans 1:1-4 KJV)
"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope." (Romans 15:4 KJV)
"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 KJV)
