The Conqueror From The Northby Wayne Blank
"Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar; two lambs of the first year day by day continually. The one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning; and the other lamb thou shalt offer at even" (Exodus 29:38-39 KJV) The portable Tabernacle In The Wilderness was replaced by the Temple (see Temples) in Jerusalem. When the Temples were destroyed, first by the Babylonians in 586 BC (which occurred before Daniel's prophecies below, see Why Babylon?) and then by the Romans (see Fall of Jerusalem In 70 A.D.), the daily sacrifice, by the Jews, ended. It ended for Christians with the coming of the Messiah anyway, but does that mean that non-Christian Jews will not again be offering their "daily sacrifice" in their Temple of God (see "My Father's House") in Jerusalem? According to Prophecy, they surely will, just before The Return Of Jesus Christ. "He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown" The prophet Daniel provides some of the most spectacular and precise prophecies of the Word of God (many of which The Lord repeated to the apostle John for his writing of the Book of Revelation). Included in the knowledge that God gave him to record is an "abomination of desolation" that is described as existing in the time just prior to Christ's return - that will do away with the Jews' "daily sacrifice" in a Jewish Temple.
"And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days." (Daniel 12:9-11 KJV) The entity responsible for the "abomination of desolation" that prevents the "daily sacrifice" will be a great military/religious superpower identified as "the king of the north," a clearly-prophesied European federation (see Daniel's Statue and Ein Volk! Ein Reich! Ein Euro!) that will successfully over-run much of the Middle East; it will not have the bulk of its armed forces bogged down for many years in just a single country:
"And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits."
Fact Finder: How can we be absolutely certain that Jerusalem will be the focus of the Messiah's return?
