"Ye shall diligently keep the Commandments [see The Decalogue] of The Lord your God, and His testimonies, and His statutes, which He hath commanded thee. And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of The Lord: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which The Lord sware unto thy fathers, To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as The Lord hath spoken." (Exodus 6:17-19 KJV)
"Hearken diligently unto My Commandments"
Just like human parents who protect their children from those who would harm them, so too The Lord defends His children when they diligently obey Him. It's only when they delinquently go off on their own that He leaves them to fight their own battles.
"For if ye shall diligently keep all these Commandments which I command you, to do them, to love The Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to cleave unto Him; Then will The Lord drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves. Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be." (Deuteronomy 11:22-24 KJV)
The Lord also provides for those who diligently live according to His way.
"And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto My Commandments which I command you this day, to love The Lord your God, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil. And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full." (Deuteronomy 11:13-15 KJV)
But what of those who defiantly let their diligence lapse? What of those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit in them by becoming apostate?
"For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. (Hebrews 6:4-8 KJV)
Why is diligence in living according to God's way so important? Because Christ's sacrifice was made for those who accept His sacrifice. Christ didn't die for sinners; Christ died for repentant sinners. As stated above, unrepentant sinners are going to be incinerated.
Fact Finder: Is "diligence" (KJV) one of the elements of the "divine nature" that is developing in genuine Christians?
