Salvation Unto All That Obey Him

"Who in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to save Him from death, and was heard in that He feared; Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered; And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him" (Hebrews 5:7-9 KJV)

"He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him"

The Scriptures don't state exactly when Jesus Christ became aware of who He was, and what He was, although He did seem very mindful of it by the time that He was twelve, as explained in the verses below. Curiously, He seemed better aware than His human parents, even though they obviously had to have known who He was, if not how He was going to die.

Holy Bible

"Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast."

"And it came to pass, that after three days they found Him in the Temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers."

"And when they saw Him, they were amazed: and His mother said unto Him, Son, why hast Thou thus dealt with us? behold, Thy father and I have sought Thee sorrowing."

"And He said unto them, How is it that ye sought Me? wist ye not that I must be about My Father's business? And they understood not the saying which He spake unto them" (Luke 2:41-42,46-50 KJV)

While Jesus of Nazareth definitely was the Son of God, by virtue of His miraculous conception through the Holy Spirit of God, He was nevertheless as human as you or I. The only difference is that He was sinless, not because He couldn't have sinned, but because He didn't sin.

"For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." (Hebrews 4:15 KJV)

Because He was as human as any other, Jesus Christ was subject to death the same as any other - they couldn't have crucified Him if He weren't. The verses in the opening paragraph record how He prayed to God to be saved from death, not physical death, since He knew that He was the "Lamb of God" whose purpose was to be sacrificed, but eternal death. Jesus prayed to be resurrected from the dead "when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to save him from death." (see above). And then, through Him, all of humanity can be saved from death, like Christ, through Resurrections from death because "He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him."

The Christ repeatedly warned however that salvation is only available for those who obey God as best that they humanly can; the rest are going to burn.

"And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire." (Matthew 3:10 KJV)

"He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the garner; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire" (Matthew 3:12 KJV)

The Son of man shall send forth His angels, and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father" (Matthew 13:41-43 KJV)
