Your Invitation To Christ's Wedding

The principal groomsman at a wedding is often called the "best man." He is not the groom, but one who attends and ministers to the groom. John the Baptist (see also The Other Miraculous Birth) was, in more ways than one (e.g. "11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist" Matthew 11:11 KJV) Christ's "best man" for a coming wedding:

"3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. 3:28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not The Christ, but that I am sent before him. 3:29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:27-30 KJV)

"For the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready"

The Church of God is sometimes spoken of as a woman (e.g. "12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ" Revelation 12:17 KJV) because it is from the Church, the people of God (see What Is The Church?), that the children of God will be born (see Born Again, How and When?). But unlike physical birth in which the child has no control what so ever, spiritual birth requires a choice, not by the mother, but by the child - because in fact, the child is the mother. In every true Christian is a potential new life, new self, as engendered by the Holy Spirit (see Spiritual Conception). An invitation to the wedding of the Lamb requires acceptance.

The Wedding

"22:1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, 22:2 The kingdom of heaven [see The Kingdom of God] is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, 22:3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

22:4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.

22:5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 22:6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. 22:7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

22:8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. 22:9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. 22:10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 22:12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth [see Baptism Of Fire]. 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen." (Matthew 22:1-14 KJV)

The parable of the "ten virgins" and "the bridegroom" speaks of the same event. The oil is Growing In The Grace And Knowledge of the Word of God that makes the Light happen.

"25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 25:2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 25:3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps [see How Much Oil Is In Your Lamp?]. 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him [see Could Christ Return Tonight?].

25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh." (Matthew 25:1-13 KJV)

The "marriage of the Lamb" will occur at His return.

"19:6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints [see What Is A Saint?].

19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God." (Revelation 19:6-9 KJV)
