Saturnalia and The Iranian Mystery God

Much of what has been erroneously viewed as "Christianity" is in fact Roman paganism. The most insidious of that fraud may be their Sun Worship that replaced God's only true Sabbath Day (that was instituted by Christ Himself - see Christ The Creator), but many other anti-Bible, anti-Christ and anti-God Satanic doctrines are accepted by millions of well-meaning but grossly deceived people. Just because it all seems so right does not make it so. Only God decides what is right or wrong - and He says it's wrong.

The Protestant "reformation" made very little change in those abominable practices because Rome's daughter churches kept nearly all of the same doctrines as their "harlot" mother. That's why Christ regards most of the Protestant churches as harlots too, no different than Rome itself i.e. "17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots" (Revelation 17:5 KJV). The true Church of God, which is what anyone, from anywhere, becomes (the actual Biblical word for "Church" means people - see What Is The Church?) when they repent and truly live according to Christ's teachings (see The Process Of Conversion) was never "Protestant," although many who are now in the true Church of God are former Protestants - and Roman Catholics (listen to the Sermon Is The True Church of God 'Protestant'? from our Sermons page).

Saturnalia and The Mythical Birth of the Iranian Mystery "God" Mithra, the Pagan "Sun of Righteousness"

Even the Church of Rome itself admits that Jesus Christ was not born on December 25 (see the Fact Finder question below). So why did they use that date? What pagan holiday (rather than God's Holy Day) was already being observed? The highly respected Encyclopedia Britannica, 15th Edition, provides us with the answer.

Christmas Tree

"The traditional customs connected with Christmas have developed from several sources as a result of the coincidence of the celebration of the birth of Christ with the pagan agricultural and solar observances at mid-winter. In the Roman world, the Saturnalia (mid December) was a time of merry making and exchange of gifts. December 25 was also regarded as the birth date of the Iranian mystery god Mithra, the "Sun of Righteousness." On the Roman New Year (January 1) houses were decorated with greenery and lights, and gifts were given to children and the poor. To these observances were added the German and Celtic rites when the Teutonic tribes penetrated into Gaul, Britain and central Europe. Food and good fellowship, the Yule log and Yule cakes, greenery and fir trees, gifts and greetings all commemorated different aspects of this festive season. Fires and lights, symbols of warmth and lasting life, have always been associated with the winter festival, both pagan and Christian. Since the Middle Ages, evergreens, as symbols of survival, have been associated with Christmas."

Is a "Christmas" tree found in the Holy Bible? Yes. Centuries before the birth of Christ, the pagans "cutteth a tree out of the forest" and "deck it with silver and with gold" for their heathen devil religion:

"10:1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the ax. 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good." (Jeremiah 10:1-5 KJV)
