The Birth Of Isaac
Isaac was the only son of Abraham with Sarah (see Abram and Sarai). Abraham had many other children, but it was through Isaac that the LORD declared that the Messianic line would flow. Abraham's other sons became the progenitors of many of the Arab people of today.
"25:1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. 25:2 And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. 25:3 And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim. 25:4 And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.
"Sarah thy wife shall have a son"
The birth of Isaac was a LORD-granted miracle because Sarah was far beyond the time of child-bearing (another Biblical example of such a miraculous birth was when John the Baptist was born to his elderly parents - see The Other Miraculous Birth).
It was at or near Hebron (see also David's Capital During The Civil War and The Civil War) that the LORD and two angels (the two angels later went on to Sodom to destroy it i.e. Genesis 18:16, 19:1) appeared to Abraham and Sarah to announce the coming birth of Isaac:
"18:1 And the LORD [see 'Before Abraham Was, I AM'] appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 18:2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
Exactly as and when the LORD promised, Isaac was born:
"21:1 And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. 21:2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. 21:3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.
