Fine Points Of God's Law
Immediately after the Israelites were given The Ten Commandments in codified form (they were already aware of them e.g. instructions for the Sabbath were given to them before they reached Mount Sinai, when the LORD gave them manna: "16:26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none" Exodus 16:26 KJV; see also The Ten Commandments Before Sinai?), they were also given specific examples of the application of The Ten Commandments to their daily lives. Centuries later, at the time of Christ's coming, the religious leadership of Judah had replaced the principle of the fine points of God's Law with fine points of their own traditions - which violated God's Law (see the Fact Finder question below to understand when and why it began after the return from the Babylonian exile).
"7:6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
A Way Of Life
At Mount Sinai, the Israelites were given lessons of how to apply God's Law in their daily lives. Can you identify under which of The Two Great Commandments and under which of The Ten Commandments these examples belong?
"20:22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. 20:23 Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold." (Exodus 20:22-23 KJV)
Fact Finder: When did the religious leadership of Judah begin to replace the fine points of God's Law with the fine points of their own traditions, many of which violated God's Law?
