Demon Infection

by Wayne Blank
See also 1 Year Holy Bible Reading Plan

The word "infection" may be defined as "an invasion of the body by pathogenic microorganisms causing inflammation." The same principle applies to humans being infected by unclean spirits.

"6:17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; 6:18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed." (Luke 6:17-18 KJV)

"They that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed"

As referred to in the Scripture quote above, those who were healed of demon possession were often also cured of a physical or psychological ailment that the demon-possession had caused, either by organic damage or through self-damaging behavior e.g.

Demon Possession

"13:11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. 13:12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity." (Luke 13:11-12 KJV)

"12:22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw." (Matthew 12:22 KJV)

The Christ also commanded His servants to do the same as He did, as again made possible by the Holy Spirit:

"10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give." (Matthew 10:7-8 KJV)

Sometimes, "exorcists" attempted to cure demon infection without the power of the Holy Spirit, with painful results.

"19:13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. 19:14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

19:16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded." (Acts 19:13-16 KJV)
