Mount Perazim

by Wayne Blank
See also 1 Year Holy Bible Reading Plan

The Hebrew word, pronounced per-aw-tseem, means break outs or breaches. "Perazim" was a single place near Jerusalem that is identified in two ways in the Holy Scriptures: Mount Perazim and Baal-perazim.

"5:20 And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim." (2 Samuel 5:20 KJV)

"28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste ... 28:21 For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work" (Isaiah 28:16,21 KJV)

"For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim"

After The Civil War, Israel became a United Kingdom under King David who moved his capital from Hebron (where he had reigned only over Judah) to Jerusalem. David had to fight to take the city and the surrounding territory, according to the LORD's command i.e. "5:20 And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me." (2 Samuel 5:20 KJV).

Zion

"5:17 But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold. 5:18 The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. 5:19 And David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand?

And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

5:20 And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim. 5:21 And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.

5:22 And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. 5:23 And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. 5:24 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines. 5:25 And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer." (2 Samuel 5:17-25 KJV)

David's victory was not an event of Bible History alone. It was also a Prophecy of Christ The King (see the Fact Finder question below) coming to reign from Zion i.e. "28:21 For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim" (Isaiah 28:21 KJV).

"28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

28:17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet [see The Lord's Plumb Line]: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. 28:18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

28:19 From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report. 28:20 For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.

28:21 For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act." (Isaiah 28:16-21 KJV)

Fact Finder: Some define "Zionism" as the coming of the King to reign from Jerusalem. What King has Zionism always been about?
