The Straight And Narrow Way

by Wayne Blank
See also 1 Year Holy Bible Reading Plan

A plain warning by Jesus Christ:

"7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." (Matthew 7:13-14 KJV)

"Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city"

Many people are familiar with the verses quoted above. But those verses were not the complete lesson. They were the "what" of the "how" and "why" that the Messiah then explained:

Words Of The Way

"7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." (Matthew 7:15-20 KJV)

True Christianity is not a "come as you are" and "do as you please" proposition. Those who, in effect, expect Christ to obey their anti-Christ "Christian" ideas and doctrines have a rebuke coming.

"7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The "gate" that the Son of God described refers to the future entrance to the Kingdom of God, the place where salvation will be granted to those who truly repent (see How To Be A True Christian Lesson 1, Lesson 2, Lesson 3, Lesson 4, Lesson 5, Lesson 6, Lesson 7, Lesson 8, Lesson 9, and Lesson 10; also The True Christian Holy Days Lesson 1, Lesson 2, Lesson 3, Lesson 4, Lesson 5, Lesson 6, Lesson 7 and Holy Day Calendar).

"21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life." (Revelation 21:27 KJV)

"22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie." (Revelation 22:14-15 KJV)

Fact Finder: How and why is it that the journey toward salvation happens at different times for different people? Why will the first resurrection (that will occur on the day of Christ's return) be to spirit, while the second resurrection (which will occur 1,000 years after the first resurrection) will be physical?
