The English word "bellow" ("below" is actually just a different spelling of the same original word) originated from an old Anglo-Saxon word which meant belly. Just as animal intestines were (and still are) used for sausage casings, stomachs were used for sacks, including bellows (e.g. the earliest bagpipes used animal stomachs for the bellows). Bellows came to be defined as a "mechanical device that blows air onto a fire to make it burn more fiercely, while the directly-related "bellow" meant to shout loudly, because vocal sound requires air (again, such as in bagpipes).
Bellows for refining are found in the Holy Scriptures. In this example however, when the bellows failed to refine the metals, the "bellows are burned" because it was as useless as what it failed to refine. The bellowing became billowing from itself being burned.
"6:27 I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way. 6:28 They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters. 6:29 The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away. 6:30 Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them." (Jeremiah 6:27-30 KJV)
The use of "bellow," meaning loud-mouth, is also found in the Scriptures. It's spoken of as something that arrogant people do i.e. they "bellow as bulls."
"50:11 Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls; 50:12 Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert. 50:13 Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues." (Jeremiah 50:11-13 KJV)
"The day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble"
As is the case with many other events of Bible History, the situations described in the verses quoted above were a prophetic object lesson (see also Parabolic Prophecies). Just as Israel (see The Northern Kingdom) and Judah (see The Southern Kingdom) were taken away by, and into, Babylon, so too have the present-day "churches of the world" been "carried away" into Babylon (which literally means confusion, to babble - so-named after the tower of Babel) because they have failed to refine themselves by means of truly striving to obey the pure Law of God (see Works Means Obedience). That's why the Church of Rome is called Babylon, and why the doctrinally-identical "protestant" churches that were created from it are called the "daughters" of that religious harlot.
"17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will show unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 17:2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 17:3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth. 17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus" (Revelation 17:1-6 KJV)
Their "bellows" are not refining anything. Instead, they loudly "bellow" their lies and errors. But what does the Messiah say about that if they don't repent? "I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
"7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
What should you therefore do if you are presently a Roman Catholic or a "Protestant"? What does the LORD command? "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues."
"18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." (Revelation 18:2-4 KJV)
And what is going to happen if you refuse to repent? "Behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble."
"4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. 4:3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts." (Micah 4:1-4 KJV)
Fact Finder: Bellows direct air into a refining process. What "air" is used to refine Christians?
