The English word "vile" (from which we get the word villain) may be defined as "morally reprehensible" - a flagrant violation of what is recognized as good. In the Holy Bible, "vile affections" means to love what is vile, regardless of what form the vileness is manifested.
The famous "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" of John 3:16 was also describing the vile affections that humans have ("men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil") that must be repented of before the Saviour's Sacrifice will be available to them.
"3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God." (John 3:16-21 KJV)
"Vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened"
The wrath of the LORD is coming upon all who love evil.
"1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world [see Christ The Creator] are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Notice carefully that "vile affections" includes more than sexual immorality (homosexuality, adultery, fornication). It means the love of any sort of vile behaviour ("all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful").
"1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.
