Adolf Hitler was one of the most evil and despicable war criminals that ever lived. He invaded and plundered country after country. He obliterated civilized human rights wherever he went. He was responsible for the torture and deaths of millions of innocent people in his concentration camps. But Hitler did it all "legally" because his government (democracy is not an effective defense, for any nation, from creating a "Hitler" - Hitler was democratically elected to the German Parliament) passed legislation that said that Hitler had the "lawful right" to do what he did. As President, Hitler never violated the law of his own country (or whenever he did, he simply passed some other law that made whatever he did "legal") and yet he was a Satanic man of lawlessness. Hitler was not the first "law-abiding" man of lawlessness, nor would he be the last.
"Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders"
Prior to the return of Christ, the world is going to be devastated by a man of lawlessness, a great political and military leader. Those who do not truly obey God (Hitler claimed to be a Christian e.g. "We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit" and "I believe today that my conduct is in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator" - see Presidential Quotes On War, Terrorism, Religion) will not recognize him as being evil: "2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie" (2 Thessalonians 2:10-11 KJV).
The apostle Paul's warning:
"2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him [see To Meet The Lord In The Air], 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand [see also Could Christ Return Tonight?]. 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders [see Revelation 13], 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 KJV)
The apostle John's warning:
"13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months [see notes for Revelation 13]. 13:6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." (Revelation 13:5-8 KJV)
The apostle Peter's warning:
"2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government [see Grace Into Licentiousness]. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. 2:11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. 2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 2:13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness" (2 Peter 2:10-15 KJV)
