Toy Bibles

The English word "toy" originated from an ancient Germanic word, toi, which meant to tug (the English words toy, tug and tow are all merely variant spellings of the same root word). The definition was based upon what little children do with playthings or other objects that give them some occasional interest or amusement - they tow, or toy, them around.

Today, a huge industry produces all sorts of "toys," often taking the form of a nonfunctional replica of a genuine object e.g. toy cars and toy airplanes for the "children" - and in millions of homes around the world, toy Bibles for the adults that are, because of their failure to make genuine use of it, also "a nonfunctional replica of a genuine object." They may idolize it, and they may carry it around like a child tugging their favorite toy, but they do not read and heed the contents like "grown ups," like genuine Christians, do.

The greatest irony of those adults who have "toy Bibles" is that there are actual children in the true Church of God who recognize that the Holy Bible is not a "toy" i.e. "from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures."

"3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:15-16 KJV)

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God"

Genuine Christianity cannot be found in the self-serving and self-worshiping philosophy of men. The Truth can only be found in the Word of God itself.

The Holy Scriptures

"1:19 We have also a more sure word of Prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction." (2 Peter 1:19-21, 2:1 KJV)

Those who ignore the Truth in the Word of God have a vain "Christianity."

"15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel [see The Gospel of The Kingdom of God] which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:1-3 KJV)

"5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21 KJV) from the Holy Scriptures is what separates wise believers of The Word of God from foolish believers in the word of man.

"17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (Acts 17:11 KJV)

The Holy Bible is not a toy with which "to please ourselves." It is there to understand and obey Almighty God.

"15:1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 15:2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. 15:3 For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

15:5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: 15:6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 15:1-6 KJV)

Jesus Christ cannot be truly known anywhere other than from the Holy Scriptures.

"16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: 16:27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen." (Romans 16:25-27 KJV)
