Follow Me

The world is full of Christian-professing "leaders" who preach "follow me" with the self-righteous purpose of getting people to follow them, a mere sinful human (see Wolves In Sheep's Clothing), rather than the sinless Jesus Christ, the one and only true Head of the Church of God (see What Is The Church?), by, and through Whom, all things were created (see Christ The Creator).

"1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son [see The Gospel of The Kingdom of God]: 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood [see Why Blood?], even the forgiveness of sins:

1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead [see The Sleep Of Death]; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven." (Colossians 1:12-20 KJV)

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me"

All of those who were called to serve The Messiah were given to do so by His invitation to "follow Me."

The Holy Scriptures

"4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee [see The Prophet Of Galilee], saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 4:20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him." (Matthew 4:18-20 KJV)

"1:43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. 1:44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter." (John 1:43-44 KJV)

"8:21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead." (Matthew 8:21-22 KJV)

"9:9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him." (Matthew 9:9 KJV)

Following Christ means to accept His Sacrifice, through obedience to Him, "according to his works" (see Works Means Obedience).

"16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples [see also Disciples and Apostles], If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works." (Matthew 16:24-27 KJV)

Although many false Christian "leaders" preach the Satanic abomination that Christ "did away with the Law," the Son of God taught obedience to the Law (see God The Conservative, Satan The Liberal). The coming Kingdom of God will be a place of Law and Order (see The Coming World Dictator); that is what will make it Paradise (unlike the arrogant human political buffoonery that has gone on since humans left the Garden of Eden).

"19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments [see The Two Great Commandments and The Ten Commandments].

19:18 He saith unto him, Which?

Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19:19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

19:20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

19:22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

19:23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven [see Are We In Heaven Now?]. 19:24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:16-24 KJV)

Jesus Christ never taught the pagan Roman "trinity" doctrine (while the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit all exist, the Holy Spirit is the power of God, not a separate "person" of a "trinity"); the Son of God plainly and always taught that the Father "is greater than all." It is by following the Son that we can arrive at the Father.

"10:22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication [i.e. Hanukkah; see Christ's Hanukkah and listen to our Sermon Hanukkah In Prophecy], and it was winter. 10:23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. 10:24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.

10:25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 10:30 I and my Father are one." (John 10:22-30 KJV)

When it became apparent to the apostles that Christ was going away, they asked how they could then follow Him. His answer will be found in His return (to them, and to everyone else, there will seem to be no time gap between their living their Christian lives and the return of Christ; see Could Christ Return Tonight? and When Will You Be Judged?).

"13:36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou?

Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.

13:37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.

13:38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 14:4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

14:5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 13:36-38, 14:1-6 KJV)

Fact Finder: What and where are the "homes" that Christ is building (His living His physical life as a "carpenter" was actually a prophetic object lesson) for those who truly follow Him?
