The By-The-Book Messiah

There are millions of Christian-professing people who do not possess a Holy Bible, nor have any desire to do so, let alone have actually read any substantial part of it, nor have any desire to do so. They are blissfully content to base their supposed "Christianity" upon the self-serving and self-glorifying opinions, interpretations and traditions of mere people, no different than themselves (regardless of how pompous and pretentious their "leaders" may make themselves out to be), who in the vast majority of cases haven't actually read the Word of God either. Is it any wonder then that what calls itself "Christianity" is divided into hundreds, if not thousands, of competing and contradicting "churches"? Without the Holy Bible as the Guiding Light, it truly is a matter of "the blind leading the blind."

"6:39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?" (Luke 6:39 KJV)

But the greater abomination is that many of the Christian-professing "churches" often smugly mock those that they sometimes call "Bible thumpers," their denigrating term for people who read the Holy Bible, believe the Holy Bible, and base their Christian faith upon the Holy Bible. In so doing, the scoffers aren't merely mocking Christ's true people, they are mocking the true Christ Himself - because The Messiah was the greatest "Bible thumper" of all. The Son of God quoted and taught from Holy Scripture constantly throughout His entire ministry. Even His "Can the blind lead the blind, shall they not both fall into the ditch," as quoted in Luke 6:39 above, was His directly referring to a quotation of Isaiah.

"42:16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. 42:17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods. 42:18 Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. 42:19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD servant?" (Isaiah 42:16-19 KJV)

"But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God"

Consider these few examples (there are many, many more), from the book of Matthew alone, in which Jesus Christ quoted (see Translation Of Translations) and taught from the Holy Scriptures. Jesus constantly quoted "the Bible" (the verse that He quoted is stated above each of the quotes from Matthew):

Deuteronomy 8:3

The Holy Scriptures

"4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4 KJV)

Deuteronomy 6:13

"4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." (Matthew 4:10 KJV)

Exodus 20:13

"5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment" (Matthew 5:21 KJV)

Exodus 20:14

"5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery" (Matthew 5:27 KJV)

Hosea 6:6

"9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." (Matthew 9:13 KJV)

Micah 7:6

"10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household." (Matthew 10:33-36 KJV)

Malachi 3:1

"11:9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. 11:10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee." (Matthew 11:9-10 KJV)

Isaiah 6:9-10

"13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 13:14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them." (Matthew 13:13-15 KJV)

Exodus 20:12 and Leviticus 20:9

"15:3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? 15:4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death." (Matthew 15:3-4 KJV)

Isaiah 29:13 (which was speaking directly to those who ignore the Word of God in favor of their own Christian "religion" - see Is Your Religion Your Religion?; also What's Your Angle?).

"15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." (Matthew 15:7-9 KJV)

Deuteronomy 19:15

"18:15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 18:16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established." (Matthew 18:15-16 KJV)

Genesis 1:27 and 2:24

"19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (Matthew 19:4-6 KJV)

Exodus 20:12-16 and Leviticus 19:18

"19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 19:18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19:19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Matthew 19:17-19 KJV)

Jeremiah 7:11

"21:12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 21:13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." (Matthew 21:12-13 KJV)

Psalm 118:22-23

"21:42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the LORD doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?" (Matthew 21:42 KJV)

Exodus 3:6

"22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage [see Resurrections and No Children In Paradise], but are as the angels of God in heaven. 22:31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living." (Matthew 22:29-32 KJV)

Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18

"22:34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. 22:35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 22:38 This is the first and great commandment. 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 22:40 On these two commandments [see The Two Great Commandments] hang all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22:34-40 KJV)
