The Lake Of Fire Into An Ocean Of Fire - When?
Dictionary definitions of "lake" and "ocean":
Lake: "A body of, usually fresh, water surrounded by land"
On the day of Christ's return (see also Instructions To The End-Time Church), the lake of fire is going to begin to burn. Into it will be cast the "beast" and his "false prophet" (see How Long Will 'The End Time' Last?).
"19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 19:12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King of kings, and LORD of lords [see The Coming World Dictator].
"The elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up"
The "lake" will be limited in area because generations of physical humans (i.e. those not resurrected and changed to spirit on the day of Christ's return - see the Fact Finder question below) will live their physical lives on the earth for the next 1,000 years.
"4:1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
At the end of the 1,000 years, when all has been completed, the lake of fire will expand into a physically-inescapable planet-wide ocean of fire, just as the world was once purified by a planet-wide ocean of water.
"3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
With the entire planet thus made pure, God the Father is coming to earth.
"21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." (Revelation 21:1-4 KJV)
Fact Finder: Why are there different times of resurrection? Why will some be resurrected to spirit, on the day of Christ's return, while others will be resurrected back to physical life at the end of the 1,000 years? After all of those who have or will have chosen to accept God's offer of salvation have done so, will those who have refused to repent be so totally obliterated in the fire that it will be as though they never existed? i.e. "65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind" (Isaiah 65:17 KJV)
