The Seed Of David
If you have ever had a garden, you understand that good seed is very important for producing a good crop. But genetics alone isn't enough. If the plants don't get enough water, sunshine, warmth, weeding, protection from insects, animals and vandals, the good seed will nevertheless produce a bad crop. The genetic identity of the good seed will however continue beyond the bad year because genetics are not affected by bad weather, or a bad gardener. Even when crossbreeding happens, the pure line continues to exist, even if not immediately visible, just as it can in humans e.g. the Biblical genealogy of Jesus Christ lists only those who carried that single royal line from David to Christ, even though there were many other collateral lines in His "family tree" (Matthew 1:1-17; see also Primogeniture and Descent).
The Israelite monarchy was founded, by Jesus Christ (see the Fact Finder question below), through King David - who was himself the "seed" of righteous Abraham (notice that the genealogy of Christ's ancestry from David begins with Abraham i.e. "1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham" Matthew 1:1 KJV). The "seed" of David was actually prophesied, by the LORD, to righteous Abraham (see What Made Abraham Righteous? and Abraham Wasn't A Jew), as Abraham's seed.
"22:15 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, 22:16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: 22:17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice." (Genesis 22:15-18 KJV)
When David's "growing season" was over, his son Solomon had his day in the sun. Solomon, despite his good seed, became an idol-worshipping "crop failure" that caused the LORD ("the LORD God" was Jesus Christ; see 'Before Abraham Was, I AM') to divide the growing place into two sections, Israel and Judah (see the studies for the Northern Kingdom and the Southern Kingdom in the Fact Finder question below).
"11:33 Because that they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father.
"Many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD"
Later, when both Israel and Judah had forsaken the LORD, the LORD uprooted the garden completely (both Israel and Judah were allowed to be conquered and taken away into exile; see The Two-Way Promise Of The Promised Land) and let it sit fallow. The "seed" however was not lost - the return of Abraham's, and therefore David's, seed from the Babylonian exile is stated in Christ's genealogy: "1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations" (Matthew 1:17 KJV).
"33:19 And the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, saying, 33:20 Thus saith the LORD; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season; 33:21 Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers. 33:22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me.
When the people of Judah returned from their captivity in Babylon, the royal seed also returned where it remained until the Christ was born (the ancestry of Jesus Christ was in fact from two kings; conceived by the Holy Spirit, He was a seed of God, while through His physical mother Mary, He was the seed of King David). Some of the people of Judah understood that the "seed" of David would remain dormant until the Messiah came (i.e. "Hath not the Scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?").
"7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast [see The Eighth Day: The Later Time Of Salvation], Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 7:39 But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.
God is God of all people. So too, Christ is the Messiah and King of all people, as King David, while of the tribe of Judah, was the king of all of the tribes of Israel - which was created from a righteous gentile named Abraham (Abraham was born in what is today Iraq). Paul, the "apostle to the gentiles" (a preacher to all the world, including Israel and Judah) was sent to preach to those where the seed of David originated, not merely to the single field where it failed to produce a good crop, yet.
"1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, 1:2 Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures, 1:3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: 1:6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
The "seed" of David is going to rule all nations, not as a Jew, but as the Son of God, the Creator (see Christ The Creator) of all of humanity.
"4:1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. 4:2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem [see Anti-Zion Is Anti-Christ]. 4:3 And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." (Micah 4:1-3 KJV)
