What Did Jesus Christ Say About Those Stones?

The Holy Bible is not a Book to ignore or fool with. When the Word of God says that something is going to happen, it surely is going to happen. The photograph below is that of the actual, literal stones that Jesus Christ spoke of, and pointed to, in this prophecy, while they yet stood in their magnificence.

"24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to show him the buildings of the temple.

24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down [see also The Apocalypse Of Jesus Christ]." (Matthew 24:1-2 KJV)

Those stones were thrown down, about forty years after the Messiah stated that it was going to happen. They are now the excavated rubble seen in the picture.

The Prophet Of Galilee made other prophecies in that same "Olivet prophecy," including this one:

"24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, whoso readeth, let him understand: 24:16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains" (Matthew 24:15-16 KJV)

That dual prophecy (it is going to happen again, just before Christ returns; see Abomination of Desolation - Where?) was fulfilled when the Romans desecrated the Temple, at the same time that they produced the destruction shown with those stones. Many people ignored His warning - and died. On the other hand, those who wisely heeded the warning, by doing what Christ told them to do, survived the slaughter, as recorded in secular history.

"Under the reign of Vespasian, Rome declared war against the Jews because of their repeated revolts, and General Titus besieged the city of Jerusalem 70 A.D. It is said that eleven hundred thousand [i.e. one million, one hundred thousand] Jews perished in the six month siege, but the church there escaped the horrors of the siege by following the instruction of Christ in Matthew 24, and fleeing to the mountains beyond the Jordan. This timely retreat was made to the small town of Pella." (Hugh Smith's History)

"In the fall of Jerusalem, few if any Christians perished. From the prophetic utterances of Christ, the Christians received warning, escaped from the doomed city, and found refuge at Pella, in the Jordan valley." (Hurlbut's Story of the Christian Church)

"See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down"

They then crossed over to the Mount of Olives, where The Christ would later ascend to heaven after His resurrection (Acts 1:9-12), and where He will return (Acts 1:11, Zechariah 14:4; see also When And Where Your Eternal Life Will Begin). The disciples asked the question (for themselves, but moreover for those who will be living in the future when it happens), "What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?"

Fallen Stones

"24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of The End Of The World?" (Matthew 24:3 KJV)

The Messiah began His answer with the great deceptions and troubles that will engulf the entire world in the end time (see What And Where Is Babylon Today?). The religious deception, wars, famines and pestilences were repeated by Christ, about 60 years later, to the apostle John in the book of Revelation (much of which was actually a letter - see The Old Man's Letter) - where they were described as the four horsemen of the apocalypse (see Chariots And Horsemen Of The Apocalypse).

"24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes [see Earthquake!], in divers places. 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows." (Matthew 24:4-8 KJV)

The Great Tribulation upon Christ's true people will be the result of the world coming under the spell of "many false prophets" who will cause hate for the Truth to abound (even more than it already does by those who are "offended" by Christ's truth, and all too often, any truth, while claiming to be Christian - see Is Your Religion Your Religion? and Toy Bibles).

"24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 24:10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom [see The Gospel of The Kingdom of God] shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." (Matthew 24:9-14 KJV)

The "the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet," will be fulfilled at that time. Christ's "two witnesses" (see The Prophets: The Two Witnesses) will be martyred at that time as well i.e. both of those events are described as happening just prior to Christ's return (see How Long Will 'The End Time' Last?).

"24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, whoso readeth, let him understand [again, see Abomination of Desolation - Where?]: 24:16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 24:17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 24:18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 24:19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matthew 24:15-22 KJV)

Even the return of Christ itself will be counterfeited by Satan-empowered "false Christs and false prophets" - who will fool, and further make a fool of, those who ignore what is written in the Holy Bible (see What's Your Angle?). The written Word of God is the key to not being deceived ("whoso readeth, let him understand") because the deceivers will deny and contradict what is actually written in the Bible, while claiming to be teaching it (see Holy Bible Reading Plan With Study Notes).

"24:23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 24:25 Behold, I have told you before.

24:26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 24:28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together." (Matthew 24:23-28 KJV)

The "signs in the heavens" will then occur to get people to look up, away from the false Christs on this earth, to the genuine Christ arriving from heaven.

"24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in The Clouds of Heaven [see also Are We In Heaven Now?] with power and great glory." (Matthew 24:29-30 KJV)

The day of Christ's return will be salvation day for the people of Christ who have lived through all of the ages right up to that day (see When Will You Be Judged?).

"24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." (Matthew 24:31 KJV)

The Messiah finished the teaching with a warning not to set dates because "of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only" (listen to our Sermon Proof Readers).

"24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 24:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 24:40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 24:41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left [see The Raptures].

24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 24:43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." (Matthew 24:32-44 KJV)

Fact Finder: Given all of the detailed information of events that will occur prior to Christ's return, why then did the Messiah complete the instructions with "ye know not what hour your Lord doth come"?

This Day In History, June 6

1513: Swiss papal forces defeated the French at the Battle of Novara in Italy during the War of the Holy League.

1523: Gustav Vasa was elected King of Sweden, ending the Kalmar Union.

1620: At beginning of The Thirty Years War, 27 of the most eminent men of the protestant Czech lands were executed and dismembered for "heresy" by Catholics under Ferdinand.

1644: Manchu forces of the Qing Dynasty, led by the Shunzhi Emperor, captured Beijing during the collapse of the Ming Dynasty. The Manchus thereafter ruled China until 1912, when the Republic of China is established.

1660: The Peace of Copenhagen was signed, ending the war between Sweden and Denmark.

1683: The first public museum, The Ashmolean, was opened at Oxford, England.

1752: A fire destroyed about one-third of Moscow.

1808: Joseph Bonaparte, the brother of Napoleon Bonaparte, was crowned King of Spain.

1813: The Battle of Stoney Creek during the War of 1812 (1812-1814). A British force of 700 under John Vincent repelled an invading U.S. force three times its size.

1882: A cyclone in the Arabian Sea produced huge waves into Bombay harbour, killing 100,000 people.

1942: The U.S. carrier Yorktown was sunk by a Japanese submarine after being hit by bombs in the Battle of Midway.

1944: Operation Overlord: 24,000 U.S., British and Canadian paratroopers, and the amphibious landing of 61,000 British ("Gold" and "Sword" beaches), 22,000 Canadian ("Juno" beach) and 73,000 U.S. ("Omaha" and "Utah" beaches) troops on the coast of Normandy, France, during the first 24 hours. It was the largest sea-borne invasion in history and has become popularly known as "D-Day" (Date Day).

1967: Day 2 of the "6 Day War". The Israeli air force by then had inflicted heavy losses on the Egyptian, Syrian and Jordanian air forces: 416 aircraft (393 while still on the ground) were destroyed by Israel, with a loss of only 26 Israeli aircraft, all to anti-aircraft fire.

1968: Senator Robert Kennedy died at age 42, the day after being shot by a Palestinian assassin in Los Angeles.

1980: For the second time in a week, U.S. nuclear forces went on red alert following a computer error warning of a Soviet attack.

1982: Israel began the "Operation Peace For Galilee" in which 80,000 Israeli troops and extensive air power invaded Lebanon in response to shelling of northern Israel by Palestinian forces in Lebanon. The Israelis inflicted heavy losses on the enemy ground forces and a devastating blow to the Syrian air force - between June 9 and 10 alone, 96 Syrian MiG-25 fighters that entered Lebanese air space were shot down, without a single Israeli plane lost. The Israelis captured vast quantities of PLO equipment - 1,320 armored combat vehicles, 144 artillery pieces and rocket launchers, 196 anti-aircraft guns, 1,342 anti-tank weapons, 33,000 small arms, and several thousand tons of ammunition. After initial swift successes however, the Israelis met fierce resistance; by the end of the conflict, casualties were estimated at 6,000 PLO fighters and noncombatants, and 800 Israeli dead and wounded, including Major General Yekutiel Adam, the highest-ranking Israeli officer ever to fall in battle.

1985: Police in Brazil exhumed a body they believed was that of Josef Mengele, the notorious Nazi "angel of death". Mengele was blamed for the deaths of 400,000 people and for sadistic "medical experiments" conducted at the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland. The body was exhumed after West German officials found a letter Mengele sent from Brazil. A team of West German, Brazilian, and U.S. scientists concluded that the body was Mengele. Police believe that he drowned while swimming on February 7 1979 and was buried under a false name.

2002: An estimated 10-meter diameter asteroid entered the atmosphere and exploded over the Mediterranean Sea between Greece and Libya. The force of the explosion was estimated to have been about the same as the atomic bomb that the U.S. used to incinerate Nagasaki, Japan in 1945.
