What Is The Day Of The LORD?

Studies in this series:
1. Who Is The LORD? 2. When Is The LORD's Day? 3. What Is The Day Of The LORD?

"That Rock was Christ"

As we have explained and proven from the Holy Scriptures in the first two studies of this series (see Who Is The LORD? and When Is The LORD's Day?), Jesus Christ was and is "the Word of God," the "Rock," and "the LORD God" Who God the Father sent to do the work of Creation - and of the Creation of the only true Christian Sabbath, on the Seventh Day (see Why Observe The True Sabbath?), when Jesus Christ rested from His Work (even Christ had "works" - see Works Means Obedience).

No one has ever seen God the Father ("1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him" John 1:18 KJV), but many people saw "the LORD God," beginning in the Garden of Eden (see The Church In The Garden), through the time of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob/Israel (see A Biography Of Abraham: The Genealogy Of Abram, What Did Jesus Christ Say About Abraham? and Where Jacob Became Israel), to the Exodus (see The Church In The Wilderness) and beyond to the time that He was born as Jesus of Nazareth (see A History Of Jerusalem: The Coming Of The Messiah).

Abraham and The Three Angels

"1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God [see What Does Word of God Mean To You?]. 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made ... 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." (John 1:1-3,14 KJV)

"2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens [see Appearances Of The LORD God], 2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 2:6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed." (Genesis 2:4-8 KJV)

"10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 10:3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ [see Christ's Crossing Of The Sea]." (1 Corinthians 10:1-4 KJV)

"24:9 Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu [see The Origin Of The Levite Priesthood], and seventy of the elders of Israel [see What Did The Elders Of Israel Do?]: 24:10 And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. 24:11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink." (Exodus 24:9-11 KJV)

"In the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a Kingdom, which shall never be destroyed"

The Messiah was not a philosopher; He taught the Word of God from the Word of God (note carefully the dual, but in His case, also single meaning of "Word of God"). The Messiah's teachings and instructions were based upon what was written, as in this example when He referred to Himself, as the "stone" (i.e. Rock), as written in the Psalms ("118:22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. 118:23 This is the LORD's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes" Psalm 118:22-23 KJV). It was a direct rebuke of the religious rebels who had taken over what Christ had established and built - but who themselves will be overtaken when the Messiah comes to rule.

Training Grape Vines

"21:33 Hear another parable [see also Parables Of The Messiah's Return]: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about [see The Boundary Law], and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country: 21:34 And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.

21:35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. 21:36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise. 21:37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.

21:38 But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance [see How Did The Messiah's Levite Priesthood Change?]. 21:39 And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.

21:40 When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?

21:41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons [see Times And Seasons].

21:42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the LORD's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

21:43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. 21:44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

21:45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees [see The Passed Over Pharisees] had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. 21:46 But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet [see The Ministries Of The Two Greatest Prophets]." (Matthew 21:33-46 KJV)

That same "stone" (i.e. Rock) was used in describing Christ's return that will bring down all of the "Babylon" kingdoms and religions of the world (see What And Where Is Babylon Today?), from which the same Rock will be the foundation of the eternal Kingdom of God. The prophecy was given to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, whose empire was succeeded by that of Persia, Greece and Rome - of which Rome and its great "harlot church" (see Constantine's Crusades In History And Prophecy and A History Of Jerusalem: Constantine and Muhammad) will be the end-time "Babylon" that will be destroyed at the time of Christ's return (see also What Is The Mark Of The Beast?).

Babylon

"2:31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. 2:32 This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, 2:33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. 2:34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. 2:35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

2:36 This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. 2:37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. 2:38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold [see Ancient Empires - Babylon].

2:39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee [see Ancient Empires - Persia], and another third kingdom of brass [see Ancient Empires - Greece and A History Of Jerusalem: Greeks, Ptolemies, Seleucids], which shall bear rule over all the earth. 2:40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise [see Ancient Empires - Rome and A History Of Jerusalem: Pompey And The Caesars]. 2:41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. 2:42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. 2:43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom [see The Constitution Of The Kingdom Of God], which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. 2:45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold [see The Coming World Dictator]; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure." (Daniel 2:31-45 KJV)

"One day is with the LORD as a thousand years"

As we've seen, the LORD and the LORD's Day are directly related. To honor one is to the honor the other; to dishonor one, is to dishonor the other.

The Sands Of Time

"58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight [see Why Observe The True Sabbath?], the holy of the LORD [the RSV correctly translates that as "the holy day of the LORD"], honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it." (Isaiah 58:13-14 KJV)

But there is another term, "the day of the LORD," that is yet to come, in a way that is a fulfillment of the mission of the LORD and the basis of His work and rest of His Creation. Consider "that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."

"3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers [see The Mocker's Folly], walking after their own lusts, 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night [see Could Christ Return Tonight? and the Fact Finder question below]; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless." (2 Peter 3:3-14 KJV)

The weekly Sabbath is, apart from being an eternal Holy Day in itself, a prefigure, a prophecy, of the time when the Messiah is going to return and establish the Kingdom of God on Earth. Consider the direct connection between "the LORD's Day" and "the day of the LORD": "As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world," so "Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief."

Seeking The King

"4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4:4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 4:5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:1-16 KJV)

"Behold, the day of the LORD cometh" - the return of the LORD God in the Day of the LORD

The Mount Of Olives

The Day of the LORD, the seventh "day" of the existence of humanity, will begin on the day of Christ's return (see When And Where Your Eternal Life Will Begin) and last for 1,000 years (see The Church In The Kingdom Of God). The 1000-year "Day of the LORD" will begin with the LORD delivering great wrath upon the defiant, rebellious nations of the world who will attempt to fight Him, "For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle."

"14:1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.

14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

14:3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. 14:4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 14:5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee [again, see When And Where Your Eternal Life Will Begin].

14:6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark: 14:7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

14:8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.

14:9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one [see The Constitution Of The Kingdom Of God]." (Zechariah 14:1-9 KJV)

From that time, the portion of humanity that was not in the first resurrection on the day of the LORD's return (see The Church In The End Time and The Church In The Kingdom Of God) will fulfill the famous "they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more" prophecy.

"2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." (Isaiah 2:2-4 KJV)

The primary reason that most of humanity will attempt to fight the LORD when He returns is because the world today is grossly deceived, by Satan (see Who's Hiding On Your Wall? and The Dragons Of The Bible). The infamous antichrist will be someone who claims, not only be a Christian, but who claims to be the leader of Christianity (see What Is The Mark Of The Beast?).

Who Is It

"2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 KJV)

The good news is that Satan will be put away on the day of the LORD's return, where he will be bound for the entire 1,000 years of the Day of the LORD.

"20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls [see What Does The Bible Really Say About Your Soul?] of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished [see The Eighth Day: What Does It Mean?].

This is the first resurrection. 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." (Revelation 20:1-6 KJV)

"I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD"

The prophets (Joel, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Obadiah, Amos, Zechariah, Zephaniah, Malachi and others, including the apostle John in the Book of Revelation) wrote much about "the day of the LORD," particularly the wrath at the very beginning of the day of the LORD (so much so that many regard the day of the LORD as the wrath alone), because the purpose of most of the prophets was to warn people to repent, so that they wouldn't face the wrath that is coming upon the arrogant nations. Preachers tend to be loved, while true prophets of the LORD are almost always hated because preachers are teachers, while prophets were sent to tell self-righteous hypocrites what they don't want to hear i.e. "30:9 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: 30:10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: 30:11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. 30:12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon: 30:13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant." (Isaiah 30:9-13 KJV).

The time of crossover will be spectacular and awesome.

A Red Moon

"2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward [see The Church In The Kingdom Of God], that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 2:29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. 2:30 And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood [see The Blood Moon Prophecy], before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call." (Joel 2:28-32 KJV)

The world today is infested with idolatry, for "their land also is full of idols" (of every imaginable manifestation, from entertainment and sports "stars," to virtually anything or anyone that is revered) and the lust for war, for "their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots" (when those verses were written, horses and chariots were used almost entirely for war). The Day of the LORD will deliver the cure, so that humanity when then "walk in the light of the LORD."

"2:5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD. 2:6 Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers. 2:7 Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots: 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: 2:9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not." (Isaiah 2:5-9 KJV)

The Day of the LORD will mark the end of humanity's Satanic arrogance, for "the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day" and "the idols he shall utterly abolish."

"2:10 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty. 2:11 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day [see The Coming World Dictator].

2:12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: 2:13 And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan, 2:14 And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up, 2:15 And upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall, 2:16 And upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant pictures. 2:17 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. 2:18 And the idols he shall utterly abolish.

2:19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. 2:20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; 2:21 To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

2:22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?" (Isaiah 2:10-22 KJV)

"Babylon" means confusion - a generalized condition that knows no boundaries (in people's minds, or across other people's borders because the Satanic state of mind known as arrogance is malignant toward others; see The Boundary Law). Most military conflicts are merely extensions of religious deception (even Adolf Hitler claimed that he was a good Christian who was doing God's will; see Presidential Quotes On War, Terrorism, Religion). The Church of Rome was created by a Roman Emperor who set off to conquer in the name of the "Christian" religion that he created for himself (see Constantine's Crusades In History And Prophecy and A History Of Jerusalem: Constantine and Muhammad). The LORD will bring that all to an end at the beginning of the Day of the LORD, for "I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible."

Nazi Troops

"13:1 The burden of Babylon [see What And Where Is Babylon Today?], which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see. 13:2 Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. 13:3 I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness.

13:4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle. 13:5 They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

13:6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. 13:7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: 13:8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.

13:9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. 13:10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. 13:11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. 13:12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir. 13:13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

13:14 And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land. 13:15 Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword. 13:16 Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.

13:17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. 13:18 Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children. 13:19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah [see also A Biography Of Abraham: The Battles Of Sodom]. 13:20 It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. 13:21 But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. 13:22 And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged." (Isaiah 13:1-22 KJV)

The religious confusion exists in all religions, including the one that became a religion in and of itself: "lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God" (see How Did The Messiah's Levite Priesthood Change?). The cure is coming for them as well, for "the day of the LORD is at hand."

Pharisees and Herodians

"1:11 Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished. 1:12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

1:13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God. 1:14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD. 1:15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come." (Joel 1:11-15 KJV)

"Zion" was created by Jesus Christ, the LORD God. "Zion" isn't about the return of a people; it's about the return of Christ, when "the day of the LORD cometh" (see The Zion Prophecy, A History Of Jerusalem: Zionism).

"2:1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain [see The Feast Of Trumpets Prophecy and Moriah: Separating The Wheat From The Chaff]: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; 2:2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.

2:3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them. 2:4 The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run. 2:5 Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array. 2:6 Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness. 2:7 They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks: 2:8 Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded. 2:9 They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.

2:10 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: 2:11 And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?" (Joel 2:1-11 KJV)

The entire world ("Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision") will view the return of the LORD as a challenge to fight the Messiah - Who will deliver to them the final battle in the history of humanity. Notice always that along with the wrath is a view of why the wrath must come, "So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God."

"3:11 Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD. 3:12 Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. 3:13 Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the vats overflow; for their wickedness is great.

3:14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. 3:15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. 3:16 The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

3:17 So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more. 3:18 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim." (Joel 3:11-18 KJV)

All of the man-made religions of the world, including those that have hijacked Christ's Name for themselves, will be erased from the face of the Earth. The Earth will be made clean when the Day of the LORD begins.

Pope Leo

"5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. 5:19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. 5:20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

5:21 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. 5:22 Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. 5:23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. 5:24 But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

5:25 Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? 5:26 But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves. 5:27 Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts." (Amos 5:18-27 KJV)

The result of the wrath will be "the Kingdom will be the LORD's."

"1:15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. 1:16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been. 1:17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. 1:18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

1:19 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead. 1:20 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south. 1:21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD." (Obadiah 1:15-21 KJV)

There is no doubt that the beginning of the 1,000-year Day of the LORD will be "a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness" - but only for those who refuse to repent and worship the true God, in the way that He commands (see Christ Died For Repentant Sinners and What Was The Lesson Of John 3:16?).

The Pharisee and the Publican

"1:7 Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests. 1:8 And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel. 1:9 In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit.

1:10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills. 1:11 Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off. 1:12 And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil. 1:13 Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.

1:14 The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. 1:15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, 1:16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers. 1:17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung. 1:18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land." (Zephaniah 1:7-18 KJV)

But always there is the warning, for "3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." (Amos 3:7 KJV).

"4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. 4:3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

4:4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.

4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: 4:6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." (Malachi 4:1-6 KJV)

When The Church Becomes The Kingdom of God

The true Church of God (the people of God; see Can You See The Church?) was created with the purpose of creating native-born citizens of the Kingdom of God (see The Church: Mission Accomplished). That will begin on the day of the LORD's return, so "that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus" (see When And Where Your Eternal Life Will Begin). Until then, no one is "born again" or "saved" yet (see What Was The Lesson Of John 3:16?). Until then, the Church of God must not wallow in the world that will be subjected to the wrath at the start of the Day of the LORD.

"5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

5:6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: 5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness [see Christ Died For Repentant Sinners]; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth [see The Messiah's Days Of Unleavened Bread]." (1 Corinthians 5:1-8 KJV)

The Day of the LORD is what the people of the LORD look forward to, "even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus."

"1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. 1:13 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end; 1:14 As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus." (2 Corinthians 1:12-14 KJV)

When all has been completed (see The Church: Mission Accomplished), then humanity will see God the Father.

"21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." (Revelation 21:1-4 KJV)

This Day In History, July 6

371 BC: The Battle of Leuctra in Greece; Epaminondas defeated Cleombrotus I (see also A History Of Jerusalem: Greeks, Ptolemies, Seleucids).

1415: Jan Hus (also known in English as John Huss), Czech preacher and reformer, was burnt alive for "heresy" by Church of Rome authorities during the Council of Constance. The council was conducted by antipope John XXIII and German emperor Sigismund (see Emperors and Popes and Ein Volk! Ein Reich! Ein Euro!; also The Struggle For The Papacy). The emperor had given Hus a guarantee of safe passage to come to the council, but reneged and had Hus killed anyway. The Hussites were named after Jan Hus, and the Hussite Wars of 1419-1436 were caused by the Hussites in Bohemia and Moravia.

1483: Richard III was crowned King of England.

1519: Charles of Spain is elected Holy Roman emperor in Barcelona.

1785: The "dollar" was chosen as the monetary unit for the U.S. The word originated in Europe in 1520 as a name for the Czech tolar, which came to be known in northern Europe as daler, then into English as dollar.

1885: French scientist Louis Pasteur successfully tested his new anti-rabies vaccine on a boy that had been bitten by an infected dog.

1887: David Kalakaua, the native King of Hawaii, was forced at gunpoint to sign the "Bayonet Constitution" that established U.S. rule Hawaii.

1906: The Ontario Parliament passed the "Lord's Day Observance Act" to prohibit work, entertainment, sport and almost all commerce on Sundays. Although the writers of the law intended it as an act of obedience to God, they were mistaken about the correct day to observe (see Why Observe The True Sabbath? to understand how the "sun day" abomination originated). The law was struck down by the Supreme Court of Canada in 1985 after challenges from Jews and true Christians who observe the Seventh Day Sabbath according to Christ's Command in the Fourth Commandment.

1917: "Lawrence of Arabia" (a British army officer, Lt. Col Thomas Lawrence) and Arab forces captured Aqaba from the Ottoman Empire during the Arab Revolt (see A History Of Jerusalem: The British Mandate).

1947: The AK-47 went into production in the Soviet Union.

1958: The former Russian territory of Alaska became the 49th state of the U.S. It was purchased from Russia in 1867 for $7.2 million.

1967: Nigerian forces invaded Biafra, beginning the Nigerian Civil War.

1988: The Piper Alpha drilling platform in the North Sea was destroyed by explosions and fires. 167 oil workers were killed, making it the world's worst offshore oil disaster in terms of direct loss of life.
