Feast Of Trumpets: Rise and Shine
The "trumpet" has been known to Bible history since ancient times. When the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, He did so with "the trumpet exceeding loud":
"19:16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. 19:17 And Moses [see Israel In History and Prophecy: Moses] brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. 19:18 And mount Sinai [see Paul's Geography Lesson] was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. 19:19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice." (Exodus 19:16-19 KJV)
Who was "the LORD" Who led the Israelites to Sinai, before He gave them His Ten Commandments there on Mount Sinai? Jesus Christ i.e. "that Rock was Christ."
"10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 10:3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ [see Who Is The LORD?]" (1 Corinthians 10:1-4 KJV)
Later, when the LORD gave instructions for His only true Christian Holy Days (see Holy Day Calendar with Sermons and Studies), the Feast of Trumpets was specified as one of them.
"23:23 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 23:24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation." (Leviticus 23:23-24 KJV)
"And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever"
The Feast of Trumpets Holy Day observance is an observed prophecy of Christ's coming to rule the earth. The first resurrection (see the Fact Finder question below) will occur on that day.
"15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God [see What Was The Lesson Of John 3:16?]; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
As described in the opening paragraphs, the return of Jesus Christ will mark the time when God's Law, as summarized by His Ten Commandments, will be delivered unto all the earth. The Feast of Trumpets portrays the coming of the Messiah, Who will rule the Kingdom of God from "the mountain" (see Moriah: Separating The Wheat From The Chaff).
"4:1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. 4:2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion [see Zionism], and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4:3 And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." (Micah 4:1-3 KJV)
Where will it all begin?
The Mount of Olives, or "the mount called Olivet," is one of the most famous places of Bible History and Prophecy. It was the place where Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, about forty days after His resurrection (listen to our Sermon What Happened Between Passover and Pentecost?).
"1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? [see our complete series of studies for the Israelite monarchy: The Origin, The Civil War, The United Kingdom, The Division Of Israel, The Northern Kingdom, The Southern Kingdom and The Messiah; also David, Future King Of Israel]
As stated in the verses above ("this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven"), the Mount of Olives will be "ground zero" for His Return. That is plainly stated in other prophecies (e.g. "14:4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east" Zechariah 14:4 KJV), but He will not be alone in His return. If you are a true Christian, you will be with Him when He descends; the Mount of Olives is going to be the place on earth where your eternal life will begin.
The first resurrection (see the Fact Finder question below) will happen on the day of Christ's return, just before the descent upon the Mount of Olives. First, He will gather His people from all around the earth who will "meet the Lord in the air" i.e. His people from among the dead will be resurrected that day, while those who are alive that day will be changed to spirit (see the Fact Finder question below).
"4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus [see The Sleep Of Death; also Could Christ Return Tonight?] will God bring with him. 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 KJV)
Unfortunately (for those who try to fight Him), the return of Christ is not going to be a peaceful event. A very deceived world will not recognize what is happening (including most of the Christian-professing people of the world - see Is Your Religion Your Religion? and The Coming World Dictator). A great earthquake will also happen that day; the Mount of Olives will be split into two sections, releasing great springs of water (see also Fountains).
"14:3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. 14:4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 14:5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
Those of the first resurrection, who began their eternal life on the day of Christ's return, "shall reign with Him a thousand years" - after which the rest of salvation will be accomplished.
"20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years [see What Will Heaven Be Like?].
Fact Finder: Why will the first resurrection, that will occur on the day of Christ's return, be to spirit, for those at that time? Why will the second resurrection, that will occur after the 1,000 years, be physical, for those at that time?
This Day In History, September 17
480 BC: The Battle of Thermopylae between the Spartans and the Achaemenid Empire (see also A History Of Jerusalem: Greeks, Ptolemies, Seleucids).
1394: All Jews in France were ordered out of the country by French King Charles VI.
1656: Massachusetts enacted severe laws against Quakers. At the time, government and religion were intricately interwoven - the line between "blasphemy" and "treason" was virtually nonexistent. While many of the settlers and "pilgrims" had left Europe to escape religious persecution, it didn't take long in their "New World" before they themselves began doing exactly what their oppressors had been doing to them back in the "old country."
1894: The Battle of Yalu River, the largest naval battle of the First Sino-Japanese (China-Japan) War.
1939: Soviet forces invaded Poland from the east while German forces were invading from the west; the Polish government and military command fled to exile in Romania.
1940: Adolf Hitler decided to "postpone" his invasion of Britain after his Luftwaffe met unexpectedly potent resistance from British fighter pilots in the "Battle of Britain" air war. Hitler was one of this world's most successful "politicians" of all time - the Satanic heathen knew how to mislead and manipulate a nation into committing horrendous evil by abusing the principles of its "patriotism" that made it all seem so "right" (see Presidential Quotes On War, Terrorism, Religion). There is another "Hitler" coming, a great deceiver who will be the end-time "beast" - see Ein Volk! Ein Reich! Ein Euro!.
1948: United Nations representative Count Folke Bernadotte was assassinated in Jerusalem. The Swedish soldier and diplomat headed the Swedish Red Cross during World War Two and is credited with saving 20,000 Jewish inmates of concentration camps. As a UN mediator in Palestine, at the time of the creation of the present-day state of Israel that year, Bernadotte was murdered by Jewish terrorists who ignored all that Bernadotte had done for the people of Judah (see Israel In History and Prophecy: Israel Of Judah and Israel In History and Prophecy: Balfour Declaration).
1956: Television was first broadcast in Australia.
1978: The Camp David Peace Accord was signed between Prime Minister Menachem Begin of Israel and President Anwar Sadat of Egypt.
1980: The independent trade union Solidarity was established after strikes at the Lenin Shipyard in Gdansk, Poland.
1980: Former Nicaraguan President Anastasio Somoza Debayle was assassinated in Asuncion, Paraguay.
1993: The last "Cold War" Russian troops left Poland.
