Hosea: A Wife And Children Of Whoredoms

Hosea, from the Hebrew name pronounced ho-shay-awh, meaning salvation, was a prophet of the LORD of, and to, the northern kingdom of Israel (see Israel In History and Prophecy: Israel and Judah) before they fell to Assyria (see Israel In History and Prophecy: The Lost Ten Tribes). Hosea is unique in that he is evidently the only native prophet of the northern kingdom from whom we have a written record i.e. the book of Hosea. Although it's not apparent in English and other-languages translations, experts in the original ancient tongues recognize Hosea's "northern accent" by the structure and wording of his writing - the same Galilee "Aramaizing diction" that Jesus of Nazareth spoke centuries later (see The Syrian Tongue Of Jesus).

As was the case for most of the other prophets, the chronology of Hosea's ministry was stated in relation to the reigns of kings of Israel and/or Judah (the "Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel" was Jeroboam II - see Kings of Israel and Judah):

"1:1 The word of the LORD [see also What Does Word of God Mean To You?] that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel." (Hosea 1:1 KJV)

Hosea was given to make an immoral spectacle of himself in the eyes of Israel, with a grossly unfaithful wife, as a portrayal to the people of Israel of how they had made themselves into an immoral spectacle in the eyes of the LORD.

The Hills Of Samaria

"1:2 The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD." (Hosea 1:2 KJV)

Although Hosea loved and supported them, as the LORD had done for Israel for some time even after they had forsaken Him for idols, his wife was "a wife of whoredoms" whose unfaithfulness produced "children of whoredoms" of other men (see The Children Of The Two Kingdoms).

"1:3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son.

1:4 And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel. 1:5 And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.

1:6 And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Loruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away. 1:7 But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.

1:8 Now when she had weaned Loruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son. 1:9 Then said God, Call his name Loammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God." (Hosea 1:3-9 KJV)

As we will read, Hosea's message from the LORD was timeless. The nation of Israel was created by the LORD (see A Biography Of Jacob: The Jacobites Of Syria and A Biography Of Jacob: When Jacob Became Israel). The object lesson that was given to Israel (which was itself an object lesson of the Church of God, and the goal of the Church of God, the Kingdom of God; see The Church: Mission Accomplished) applies to faithfulness to the LORD, through Whom the Children of God will be born (see What Was The Lesson Of John 3:16?). Those who follow another spirit, that of Satan's influence, produce children of rebellion, following the first rebel, Satan.

The Messiah's conflict with the religious authorities happened because they had once again become unfaithful to the LORD and followed their own vanities (see How Did The Messiah's Levite Priesthood Change?, Israel In History and Prophecy: Judaism and Why Did The Sadducees Fear The Messiah?).

"8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 8:35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. 8:37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. 8:38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father.

Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham [see What Did Jesus Christ Say About Abraham?]. 8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. 8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father.

Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." (John 8:34-44 KJV)

The lesson wasn't merely about ancient Israel who rejected the LORD, or Judaism that rejected the Messiah when He came. It's moreover about the self-Christianity that millions of people have created for and about themselves, using Christ's Name for their fantasy religions. Merely claiming to be Christian is worthless, as the Messiah warned about a yet-future rebuke that is coming: "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Papacy

"7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it [see The Messiah's Teachings About Gates].

7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." (Matthew 7:13-23 KJV)

Hosea would immediately recognize the end-time "Babylon the great, mother of harlots" (which has existed already for centuries; see (see Constantine's Crusades In History And Prophecy and Satan's Masquerade) - it's exactly what Hosea's "wife of whoredom" lesson and warning was all about.

"17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 17:2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 17:3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. 17:7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. 17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. 17:9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 17:10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. 17:11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

17:12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 17:13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. 17:16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17:17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. 17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth." (Revelation 17:1-18 KJV)
