For The Love Of God: 4
"If ye love Me, keep My Commandments"
The Sabbath Day, and only the Sabbath Day, was made Holy by the LORD God (Who was later born as Jesus Christ; see The Kingdom Of The LORD God) at the time of Creation. The Sabbath Day was the crowning jewel of the Creation.
"2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made." (Genesis 2:1-3 KJV)
The Fourth Commandment, as delivered by Jesus Christ to all of humanity:
"20:8 Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy. 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 20:10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it." (Exodus 20:8-11 KJV)
The Sabbath Day is the LORD's Holy Day that He commanded everyone to observe. The Sabbath Day is not the invention of, or the property of, Jews or any Sabbath-keeping Christians - the Sabbath was created when only the first two humans existed.
"58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it." (Isaiah 58:13-14 KJV)
The Sabbath Day is an identifying sign; it identifies the only true God, the Creator, and it identifies His true people (although Sabbath-keeping alone is not enough - there are many who are Sabbath keepers who are not God's true people):
"20:11 And I gave them my statutes, and showed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them. 20:12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them." (Ezekiel 20:11-12 KJV)
The Sabbath Day is not the "Jewish" Sabbath; it is the Sabbath of the LORD. Jesus Christ, the greatest "Christian" of all, observed the Sabbath Day (see What Did Jesus Do On The Sabbath?) and only the Sabbath Day (the pagan Roman "sun day" did already exist at that time, but Jesus Christ, and the apostles, and the early church, were all Sabbath keepers - they would never have observed the heathen "sun-worship day" - see the Fact Finder question below):
"1:21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught." (Mark 1:21 KJV)
Christians continued to observe the Sabbath after Christ's sacrifice:
"13:42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. 13:43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. 13:44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God." (Acts 13:42-44 KJV)
The seventh day never stopped being God's Sabbath. It has always been observed by Christians who base their Christianity on the Word of God, the Holy Bible, and it will always be observed into the future. After the Return Of Jesus Christ (see Moriah: Separating The Wheat From The Chaff), all people, of all nations, will learn (the easy way, or the hard way - their choice, and yours) to observe God's weekly Sabbath:
"66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. 66:23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD." (Isaiah 66:22-23 KJV)
Fact Finder: How did the Roman "sun day" become a counterfeit substitute for the true Christian Sabbath?
This Day In History, June 15
763 BC: The Assyrians (see Ancient Empires - Assyria) recorded a solar eclipse that was later used to determine the dates of other events in the history of ancient Mesopotamia (i.e. Iraq; see also The LORD's Seed Covenants With The Two Men Of Iraq).
923: King Robert I of France was killed at the Battle of Soissons.
1184: King Magnus V of Norway was killed at the Battle of Fimreite.
1215: King John sealed the Magna Carta, the "Great Charter" of English liberties, at Runnymede, near Windsor. The Magna Carta was a key building block of constitutional law in the English-speaking world that many countries, even centuries later, used as the basis of their Constitution.
1381: The Peasants Revolt ended in Britain with its leader Wat Tyler being beheaded in London.
1389: The Ottoman Empire defeated the Serbs and Bosnians at the Battle of Kosovo (listen to our Sermon The Ottoman Empire).
1467: Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, died; he founded the Burgundian state that rivalled France in the 15th century.
1520: Pope Leo X excommunicated Martin Luther for refusing the Pope as his leader. Luther nevertheless maintained almost all of the Church of Rome's antichrist doctrines, as do the "Protestant" churches of today.
1567: Mary, Queen of Scots, was captured at the battle of Carberry Hill, near Edinburgh.
1744: British Admiral George Anson returned to England after circumnavigating the globe in an expedition that lasted nearly four years.
1846: The Oregon Boundary Treaty was signed by Queen Victoria and U.S. President James Polk. The treaty set the boundary between British North America and the breakaway colonies at the 49th parallel from the crest of the Rockies to the middle of the channel between Vancouver Island and the mainland.
1888: Crown Prince Wilhelm became Kaiser Wilhelm II, the last Emperor of the German Empire (see The Holy Roman Empire).
1898: A tidal wave killed 22,000 people in Japan.
1992: The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it is "permissible" for the US to "forcibly extradite" anyone from other countries without any regard for the sovereignty of those countries - while at the same time proclaiming it illegal for any other country to do the very same thing to anyone in the U.S.
1994: Israel and The Vatican established full diplomatic ties.
1997: David Streeter, director of Britain's "Church Society," stated that Prince Charles should end his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles or give up his claim to the throne. "We are not going to have a confessed adulterer as supreme head of the Church of England," he said (an extremely ironic statement because the Church of England was created by an adulterer, King Henry VIII, to accommodate his repeated divorces and marriages that even the Papacy, the "great harlot" of Rome, said was immoral).
2002: An asteroid missed the Earth by only 121,000 kilometers, about 1/3 the distance between the Earth and the Moon.
