Why Is God A King, Not A President?
"Behold a white horse; and He that sat upon Him was called Faithful and True ... He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING of kings, and LORD of lords ... Then cometh the end, when He shall have delivered up the Kingdom to God, even The Father"
The rule of God over His Creation will not be in any way like the politics of man over one another ("20:25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. 20:26 But it shall not be so among you" Matthew 20:25-26 KJV). The Kingdom of God will not be a democracy or a dictatorship, capitalist or communist. It will not merely be a continuation of the confused and deceitful world that exists now. The Kingdom of God will be Paradise.
The English-language word "king" originated from an Anglo-Saxon word, cyning, a pronoun form of cyn, which meant kin. That English-language word kin, meaning family, or race, originated from the same root word as "king." A "king" was the father, or progenitor, of a kin, a family. It wasn't merely about genetics - it was about responsibility.
"Nation" means birth, not as much by place as by ancestry. Families, people with the same nativity, that grew large became "nations." Those that became prosperous grew further from family camps, to bordered cities, and then into their own sovereign territories, or "country" ("nation" means family, "country" means sovereign territory). The father of the people, the "king," then had the further authority of responsibility, not only as the head of his children and descendants, but as the leader who was held responsible for their security and prosperity. Kings were not about politics and election buffoonery.
The Hebrew word of the Holy Scriptures that is translated as "king" is pronounced meh-lek. It means exactly the same as the Anglo-Saxon and English words - the father of a people, the leader of a nation, the sovereign ruler of a nation's country.
Other words have their origin based upon the original meaning of "king."
"Crown" is from the Latin word corona that meant the head. A crown wasn't mere a decoration worn on the head - it signified the one who was responsible for the kin - the king.
"Patriotism" originated from the Latin word for father, patra. It meant faithful to the father, the "king," whether on a family, or a national, level.
"Royal" is from the Latin word, regis, which meant "king," but with a further applied meaning of being genuine, by ancestry of both the king and those who claimed to be his children i.e. "royal" blood. Otherwise, as stated by the Holy Scriptures, the undeclared person (apart from lawful adoption that thereafter gave them the same rights - equivalent to a lawful immigrant) in question was a "bastard" - a rude word in the world today, but nevertheless found in the Holy Scriptures i.e. 23:2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD" (Deuteronomy 23:2 KJV) and "12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons." (Hebrews 12:7-8 KJV)
From all of those literal meanings, it's obvious why God is a King. It's the only term that identifies Who and What He truly is. He is the Father of all who will be born into the Kingdom of God (see the Fact Finder question below).
Someone who merely takes the power of leadership over others is an entirely different matter (see The Treason Of Absalom and The Fall Of The Rebel Prince; also The Spirit Of Traitors). Taken at its prophetic extreme, the antichrist (see Will The Antichrist Have Your Vote? Will You Worship At His Church? and The Signature Of The Antichrist) will claim for himself the authority of God, the King of humanity i.e. "13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 13:6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven." (Revelation 13:5-6 KJV)
"President" is from a Latin word that means to preside, or to set up someone above others. Anyone can be a president, whether elected or by force of arms, while only the actual father of a family can be a king. In that way as well, "patriotism" refers directly to a king, not to whoever happens to hold power on a temporal basis, which is actually "frat-iotism" - faithful to a brother, not the father, the king. God is forever, a father of a family is forever, while politicians and dictators come and go. God does not in any way fit the definition of president.
The return of the Messiah will be as a King.
"19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 19:12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written,
The Messiah will reign only until the Ultimate King arrives.
"15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
The Kingdom of God begins when God the Father arrives.
"21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Fact Finder: How and when will the children of God be born in the Kingdom of God?
This Day In History, December 5
63 BC: Marcus Tullius Cicero (commonly-known simply as Cicero), consul of Rome, delivered the fourth and final of the Catiline Orations. The Catiline Orations (or Catilinarian Orations) were speeches to reveal to the Roman Senate the plot of Lucius Sergius Catilina and his allies to overthrow the Roman government. Rome existed as a republic (see The Politics Of Rome) before it restored its monarchy to begin its empire (see A History Of Jerusalem: Pompey And The Caesars).
1484: Pope Innocent VIII issued a bull (see Papal Bull) condemning the spread of witchcraft and "heresy" in Germany; he ordered that all accused persons were to be executed.
1492: Christopher Columbus "discovered" Haiti (the existing people of the island already knew that it was there; see also Thanksgiving In History and Prophecy).
1496: King Manuel I expelled Jews from Portugal.
1560: King Francis II of France died at age 16 after reigning 1 year.
1594: Flemish geographer Gerardus Mercator died at age 82. The still commonly-used Mercator Projection map is named after him.
1791: Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart died at age 35.
1916: David Lloyd George became the Prime Minister of Britain.
1921: Britain reached an accord with Sinn Fein to permit Ireland to become an independent country.
1945: In one of the most famous "Bermuda Triangle" disappearances, the "Lost Squadron" (5 U.S. Navy Avenger bombers with a total of 14 crew) took off on a routine training mission from the Naval Air Station at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While many believe that the lead pilot simply became lost due to disorientation and/or navigational equipment failure (as radio transmissions within the flight overheard by other aircraft in the area indicated) and led the squadron out to sea where they ran out of fuel and were lost, others regard the disappearance as somehow supernatural.
1975: Less than a month after describing Zionism as racism (see A History Of Jerusalem: Zionism), the United Nations General Assembly (see Israel In History and Prophecy: The Balfour Declaration to understand the role of the UN in the establishment of the modern state of Israel) ordered Israel to return all "occupied Arab land" (that the Arab nations lost in battle after they attacked Israel) without qualification (that is, without peace treaties), and to "restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinians." It was one of the most anti-Jewish, hypocritical demands ever made by the United Nations General Assembly, and the Israeli government rightfully refused.
1978: The Soviet Union signed a 20 year "friendship pact" with then-communist Afghanistan. The Soviets invaded Afghanistan a year later, in December 1979, at the "request of the government of Afghanistan" to assist in the fight against the Mujahideen, an allied group of Afghan opposition groups who were being supported and armed by the U.S. and Britain (as well as a number of Muslim nations in the Middle East whose existing pro-western dictatorships were being threatened by the communist dictatorships). Ironically, when the Russians withdrew from Afghanistan, and the U.S. invaded Afghanistan after the 9-11 terrorist attacks, the U.S. ended up fighting the same insurgents that it once armed and supplied in their fight against the Russians - they were called "freedom fighters" when they were fighting the Russians but "terrorists" when they fought the U.S.
1999: Bert Hoffmeister died at age 92. He was the most decorated Canadian solder of the First World War; he also received the Legion of Merit from the U.S., the Order of Orange Nassau from the Netherlands and the Military Order of Italy (listen also to our Sermon The European World Wars).
