Creation Day 4: The Calendar

"Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years"

Physical light was created on the first day (see Creation Day 1: Let There Be Light). The view through the atmosphere (see Creation Day 2: The Heaven Above, The Waters Below) from the newly-created land mass (see Creation Day 3: Continents And Oceans) remained translucent ("allowing light to pass through diffusely") until the forth day when the skies became clear. It was then possible to plainly see the sun, moon and stars that were created on the first day.

The LORD's Calendar, which is based directly on His Creation, was then established from the observable apparent movement (i.e. the daytime movement of the Sun and the nighttime movement of the stars are actually caused by the rotation of the Earth on its axis every 24 hours) of the sun, moon and stars.

"1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day." (Genesis 1:14-19 KJV)

The LORD's true Holy Days are based on His true calendar. Months are from New Moon to New Moon. Hence, with Passover is always correctly observed on the fourteenth day of Nisan, half-way through the lunar month, there is always a Full Moon at Passover - just as there was on the night of the Exodus which took place on that same calendar date.

So too, there is always a Full Moon at the start of the autumn Feast of Tabernacles which begins on the fifteenth day of the month.

The LORD's true calendar is based on the reality of the natural Creation, unlike the Roman calendar that can illogically and nonsensically have two New Moons or two Full Moons in just one of their man-made, nature-ignoring calendar months that were created to honor Roman Emperors i.e. July was named after Julius Caesar (see The Roman Emperors: Julius Caesar) while August was named after Caesar Augustus (see The Roman Emperors: Augustus) or pagan gods ("Saint Valentine's Day" as a lovers' festival and the modern tradition of sending Valentine cards have no relation to the saints but, rather, seem to be connected either with the fertility festival of the Lupercalia which replaced an earlier pagan Roman spring festival, known as Februa - from which the Roman month of February got its name).

Due to the geometry of the orbits of the Sun, Moon and Earth, an eclipse of the Moon can only occur when the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon i.e. at Full Moon (see the illustration below). Throughout the time since Passover was instituted by the LORD, many Passovers have been accompanied by an eclipse of the Moon (an eclipse of the moon doesn't occur every month or every Passover because the alignments must also be precise in their cycle).

So too, the Feast of Tabernacles (see Why Christians Observe The Messiah's Feast Of Tabernacles) begins on the fifteenth day of the seventh month. Throughout the time since the Feast of Tabernacles was instituted by the LORD, many Feasts of Tabernacles have begun at the time of an eclipse of the Moon.

How and when an eclipse of the Moon happens:

Lunar Eclipse

Also due to the same geometry of the orbits of the Sun, Moon and Earth, an eclipse of the Sun can only occur when the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth i.e. at New Moon (see the illustration below). As with eclipses of the Moon, an eclipse of the Sun doesn't occur every month because the alignments must also be precise in their cycles.

Another of the LORD's true Christian Holy Days, the Feast of Trumpets (which portrays and prophesies the coming return of the Messiah; see The Feast Of Trumpets: The First Christian Salvation Day), begins on the first day of the seventh month. Throughout the time since the Feast of Trumpets was instituted by the LORD, many Feasts of Trumpets have been observed at the time of an eclipse of the Sun.

This Day In History, April 11

217: The accession of Macrinus, the 24th Roman emperor, reigned 217-218 (see also The Messiah And The Caesars and The Roman Emperors: Domitian and The Roman Emperors: Julius Caesar and The Founding Of Rome: The Curious Tale Of Romulus and Remus).

The Roman Empire

1512: The forces of the "Holy League" (see The Holy Roman Empire Of The German Nation) were defeated by the French at the Battle of Ravenna.

1689: William III and Mary II were crowned as joint sovereigns of Britain.

1713: The Treaty of Utrecht was signed to end the War of The Spanish Succession.

1814: European Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled to the island of Elba, off the coast of Italy (see also Russia Or Europe - Who Has Been The Invader?).

Napoleon Bonaparte

1864: Archduke Maximilian of Austria accepted the throne of Mexico.

1941: During the Second World War (1939-1945;see also The Assassination That Triggered Two World Wars), Nazi-German bombers devastated Coventry, England.

1951: Police recovered the Stone of Scone (pronounced "scoon") which had been stolen from Westminster Abbey over 3 months earlier. The 484 pound stone has been part of the coronation ceremonies for British monarchs since it had been brought to London in 1296.

Stone of Scone

1961: Israel began the trial of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichman (who was later hung).

Not all of the "leading" Nazi war criminals faced justice for their crimes however. At the end of the Second World War (1939-1945), many prominent Nazi scientists who worked for Adolf Hitler's war and holocaust regime (see also Presidential Quotes On War, Terrorism, Religion) were admitted into the U.S. The "reformed" Nazis (many people, at the time and ever since, nevertheless regarded them as war criminals who escaped justice, including Jewish concentration camp survivors who were victims of some of their "experiments") later worked for various government and military agencies, including NASA and nuclear missile programs.

Among them was the Nazi scientist Wernher von Braun (the developer of the rockets that Hitler used to bomb Britain) who worked at NASA to develop the U.S. space program using Hitler's rocket designs. Many who knew the truth about Wernher von Braun referred to him as the "NASA Nazi."

1965: 40 tornadoes struck the U.S. Midwest, killing 272 people and injuring 5,000.

1970: Apollo 13 was launched. The aborted mission returned 6 days later.

1979: Ugandan dictator Idi Amin was ousted.

1982: Allen Goodman, a U.S.-born Israeli soldier, went on a shooting rampage on the Temple Mount (see A History Of Jerusalem: Constantine and Muhammad, A History Of Jerusalem: Zionism and A History Of Jerusalem: War And Peace). Storming into the Al Aksa Mosque with an M-16 rifle, Goodman killed a Muslim guard and wounded other Arabs (see What Does The Bible Say About Arabs?). The incident set off a week of rioting and strikes in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaze. Goodman was convicted a year later and sentenced to life plus 2 terms of 20 years. The sentence was later reduced to 24 years, of which he served less than 16 years before being released on October 16 1997.

1997: Fire severely damaged the church that housed The Shroud of Turin (see also Shroud Of Turin: A Miraculous Fake?), however firemen were able to save the relic.
