A Bible Journey, 160: Tactics For The Canaan Campaign
"Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh"
The Earth is the property of the LORD (Who was and is Jesus Christ; see The Real Jesus: The Word Of The LORD God and A Bible Journey, 56: The Sacred Name). He created it and owns everything and everyone in it. See the Creation series of studies:
Creation Day 1: Let There Be Light
King David was also a historian (see Biblical Eras: The City Of David - When Jerusalem Became An Israelite City) and a prophet (see Psalm 22: David's View From The Cross).
"24:1 A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 24:2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. 24:3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? 24:4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. 24:5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation." (Psalm 24:1-5 KJV)
The Israelites were delivered in the Exodus by means of military force - after the Pharaoh was repeatedly, and peacefully, asked to "Let my people go" (see A Bible Journey, 58: Let My People Go, That They May Serve Me). Force was a legitimate resort after peaceful diplomacy was refused.
The territory that the Canaanites occupied was assigned to a specific line of descendants of an immigrant from Iraq named Abraham (see The LORD's Seed Covenants With The Two Men Of Iraq and Biblical Eras: The Lands Promised To Abraham). The fact that it was not given to Abraham in his own lifetime, long before any Israelites or Jews even existed (see Biblical Eras: Abraham, Isaac And Jacob Were Not Israelites Or Jews), is a testimony that the inheritors of the land were given it for a greater purpose, not for any favoritism to any particular people.
The presence of the Messianic line would provide the Messiah for all people, including the Canaanites in due time (see the Fact Finder question below) when the LORD God Himself Who would be born as that Messiah.
When the Israelites arrived to take possession of the land that had been deeded to them centuries before they even existed as a nation (see Biblical Eras: The Exodus In History and Prophecy), they were faced with inhabitants of their land who chose to fight the lawful owners. The war was their choice, just like it had been for the Pharaoh. They quickly learned that the LORD doesn't lose any war with those who resist His Will. Hence the instructions that He gave to the Israelites as they were about to cross the Jordan.
"7:1 When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; 7:2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them: 7:3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. 7:4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly. 7:5 But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire. 7:6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth." (Deuteronomy 7:1-6 KJV)
The Israelites were greatly outnumbered, but the LORD guaranteed their victory for the sake of the coming salvation of all of humanity in due time - ironically, even for the Canaanites who resisted the fulfilling of the prophecy (see The Harvest Prophecies).
"7:7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 7:8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; 7:10 And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
Fact Finder: Who was Canaan? What does the Holy Bible actually say about Canaan's descendants, the Canaanites? How did it happen that Judah became the forefather of the Jews ("Jew" is merely an abbreviation of the name Judah) with two Canaanite women?
This Day In History
This Day In History, March 29
87 BC: Emperor Wu of Han of China died at age 69 (see also The First Chinese American War).
502: Burgundian King Gundobad proclaimed a new legal code (Lex Burgundionum) at Lyon. It unified the laws of the Gallo-Romans and the Burgundians (Burgundy was a province in eastern France; it later became famous for its wines).
1430: The Ottoman Empire under Murad II captured the Byzantine city of Thessalonica (the city is known in the Bible from two epistles of the apostle Paul; see 1 Thessalonians: Prove All Things, Hold Fast What Is Good and 2 Thessalonians: The Falling Away Of The Son Of Perdition).
1461: The bloodiest battle of the Wars of the Roses occurred near York. 35,000 Yorkists battled 40,000 Lancastrians to secure the English throne for Yorkist Edward IV.
1638: The first permanent European settlement in Delaware was established by Swedish Lutherans.
1778: English explorer James Cook landed at Vancouver Island. A year later, Cook was killed (and some reports say eaten) by natives in the islands of Hawaii, which Cook originally named the Sandwich Islands (after the Earl of Sandwich, a supporter of Cook's voyages).
1798: The Helvetic Republic, a government set up by the French directory in Switzerland from the ten cantons, was proclaimed.
1792: King Gustavus III of Sweden died of gunshot wounds inflicted by an assassin 2 weeks earlier.
1809: In Sweden, Gustavus IV was forced to abdicate after a number of military defeats against Denmark. He was succeeded by Charles XIII.

1945: During the Second World War (1939-1945), the last day of the Nazi V-1 "flying bombs" (i.e. rockets) struck on England. After the war, many of the Nazi rocket scientists were welcomed into the U.S., including Wernher von Braun who was the head of Adolf Hitler's liquid-fuel rocket program that was used to bomb Britain (in which thousands of British civilians were killed).
The war criminal Wernher von Braun, who later admitted that he had been more than just a scientist (he was a member of both Hitler's political Nazi party and Hitler's war-criminal SS, the "schutzstaffel") worked on the development of NASA rockets (despite the opposition of those who knew the truth about "the NASA Nazi," including many Jews and Jewish holocaust survivors) and U.S. nuclear missiles.
