King Nebuchadnezzar was given to see a great statue that prophetically portrayed his own Babylonian Empire, as well as the empires (in successive order) of Persia, Greece and Rome that followed over the next 5 centuries. The LORD enabled the prophet Daniel to identify the empires of that prophecy (see The Prophet Daniel: Nebuchadnezzar's Image). Later, Daniel was himself given, in a dream, the same empires prophecy - but with animals with characteristics that portrayed each empire (see The Prophet Daniel: The Four Great Beasts).

The "horses" were listed by color - white, then red, then black, then pale.
