"If you ever forget Israel, God will forget you"

"Accordingly, we the members of the National Council, representing the Jewish people in Palestine and the World Zionist Movement, are met together in solemn assembly today, the day of termination of the British Mandate for Palestine; and by virtue of the natural and historic right of the Jewish people and the Resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations, we hereby proclaim the establishment of the Jewish State in Palestine, to be called Medinat Yisrael [the state of Israel]... With trust in the Rock of Israel, we set our hand to this declaration, at this session of the Provisional State Council, on the soil of the homeland, in the city of Tel Aviv, on this Sabbath eve, the fifth of Iyar, 5708, the 14 of May, 1948"

Those words of David Ben-Gurion, 1,878 years after the Fall of Jerusalem In 70 A.D., marked one of the most important events for humanity, all humanity - the return of the land of Israel to clearly-identified Israelites.

The national return of one of Israel's ancient children, Judah, to the land promised to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would not have happened, or kept happening since then, without the direct involvement of two other ancient brothers who instinctively knew, although often reluctantly and without realizing it, what they had to do, and precisely when they had to do it. Much of history is not a record of haphazard events; it's the step by step fulfillment of God's plan of salvation for all nations.

Birth Not Possible Without Britain

During the First World War, British forces under Field Marshal Edmund Allenby captured "Palestine" from the Ottoman Empire, which had allied itself with Germany. At the same time, this now-famous letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour to Lord Rothschild, a prominent British Jew and supporter of Zionism, was made public:

Dear Lord Rothschild:

I have much pleasure in conveying to you on behalf of His Majesty's Government, the following declaration of sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations which has been submitted to, and approved by, the Cabinet:

His Majesty's Government view with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.

I should be grateful if you would bring this declaration to the knowledge of the Zionist Federation.

On July 24, 1922 the "Balfour Declaration" was incorporated into the League of Nations mandate for Palestine, which stated the terms by which Britain was given temporary authority of the country on behalf of the Jews and Arabs living there. The mandate was in effect from 1922-1948, a time marked by animosity and bloodshed. However, by 1948, when Britain withdrew, British control made possible a Biblically-prophesied event that would not have happened without them: the people of Judah taking re-possession of the promised land.

Survival Not Possible Without The United States of America

At 8 a.m. on May 14, 1948, the British lowered the Union Jack in Jerusalem and completed their withdrawl from Palestine. By mid-afternoon, full scale fighting between Jews and Arabs had erupted throughout the country. At 4:00 p.m., a broadcast from the Tel Aviv Museum of David Ben Gurion proclaiming the State of Israel, a portion of which is quoted in the opening paragraph, was made.

The United States of America immediately gave Israel national recognition, and began a policy of unfailing diplomatic, economic and military support that has continued to the present day. According to one estimate, since 1948 the U.S. has spent an incredible 130 billion dollars on economic and military support to Israel, making the Jewish nation, despite having a population smaller than that of some U.S. cities, the end-time superpower of the Middle East, exactly as prophesied:

"Judah, your brothers shall praise you [the original Hebrew word often translated as praise actually means give power i.e. "Judah, your brothers shall give power to you"]; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father's sons shall bow down before you. Judah is a lion's whelp [a symbol of Britain is the lion, the modern state of Israel was born during the time that Britain governed the land of Israel - see above]; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as a lioness; who dares rouse him up? The scepter shall not depart from Judah [the people and the place], nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until He comes [i.e. The Return Of Jesus Christ] to Whom it belongs; and to Him shall be the obedience of the peoples." (Genesis 49:8-10 RSV)

In response to Israel's proclamation of the State of Israel the day before, Arab armies of Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon invaded. The first major Israel-Arab War ended with Israel both victorious and more extensive in territory. Other wars followed - the Suez Conflict in 1956, the Six Day War in 1967, the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Israel lost none of them, but then, it couldn't afford to. Unlike others who could lose a conflict and continue to exist, all of Israel's wars have been for survival itself.

Those who have sought to destroy Israel since 1948 have come to realize an undeniable reality. When they attack "Israel," they are also going to war against the United States, either indirectly, against advanced American weapons and technology in the hands of Israeli forces, or if Israel were ever about to actually lose a war of survival, directly with the United States itself. The U.S. would enter the conflict, in our time not just for the traditional reasons, but also to prevent the certainty of Israel's launching, as a final national act of retaliation, all of the nuclear weapons that it's now known to possess.

This has already occurred when Israeli forces were in very serious trouble at the beginning of the surprise-attack Yom Kippur War. The Israelis turned the war around only after U.S. President Richard Nixon ordered immediate emergency airlifts of the most advanced American weapons and war supplies to Israel. There is no doubt in the minds of many that if the airlift hadn't worked, a massive intervention of U.S. troops and warplanes would surely have followed within days.

The American steadfast loyalty toward Israel can perhaps be summed up by a profound, and true in every way, statement made by former U.S. President Bill Clinton:

"When I was younger I remember speaking to our priest, who truly loved Israel. He told me, 'You have much potential - you might even be President of the United States. But remember one thing. If you ever forget Israel, God will forget you.'"
