What Does "Gospel" Mean?
The word gospel is derived from the old Anglo-Saxon word
meaning "good message" or "good news." And indeed it is! But the "good news" of what? The "gospel" of what? According to The Bible, "And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching The Gospel of The Kingdom" (Matthew 9:35 RSV)
"Thy Kingdom Come"
"Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:9-10 RSV)
"As you looked, a stone was cut out by no human hand, and it smote the image [see Daniel's Statue] on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces; then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, all together were broken in pieces, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth." (Daniel 2:34-35 RSV)
"then will appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of man coming [see The Return Of Jesus Christ] on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory; and He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." (Matthew 24:30-31 RSV)
A New World
"On that day living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea [see The Salt Sea] and half of them to the western sea [see The Mediterranean Sea]; it shall continue in summer as in winter. And The Lord will become king over all the earth; on that day The Lord will be one and His name one." (Zechariah 14:8-9 RSV)
"It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of The Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it, and many nations shall come, and say: "Come, let us go up to the mountain of The Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us His ways and we may walk in His paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of The Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between many peoples, and shall decide for strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." (Micah 4:1-3 RSV)
Fact Finder: Did Jesus Christ say that the Gospel of the Kingdom would be preached in all the world as a witness for all nations before the end (i.e. the end of humanity's misrule of the earth) would come?
