Note: This epistle of James was not written by the apostle James, who was killed by Herod (see The Herods) before it was written (Acts 12:2). The most likely author is James, the brother of Jesus Christ (e.g. Matthew 13:55), who became a highly respected leader in the early church (Acts 12:17, 15:13, 21:18, 1 Corinthians 15:7, Galatians 1:19)
