The Eternal Laws Of Liberty

"In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of flesh in the circumcision of Christ; and you were buried with Him in Baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you, who were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, having canceled the bond which stood against us with its legal demands; this He set aside, nailing it to the cross." (Colossians 2:11-14 RSV)

The Mosaic Law

The Ten Commandments There are some who believe, and teach, that The Ten Commandments are not in effect for Christians, and the above Scriptures are often quoted as "proof." But, does that mean that we are now somehow lawless, like Satan is lawless? Are we free to worship false gods, or bow down to idols, or blaspheme God's name, or ignore His Sabbath Day, or abuse and dishonor parents, or commit murder, or run wild in adultery, stealing, lies and coveting? Does that sound like someone that God would be pleased with, especially if they claim to be a good Christian all the while that they're doing it? Or does it describe someone that He is going to condemn if they don't wake up?

So, what law was "nailed to the cross" then? The Mosaic law. The ultimate sacrifice of the Savior on the cross abrogated the old Mosaic laws, the generally symbolic of the coming Savior (see Type and Antitype) ceremonial sacrifices and ordinances, that did not include God's eternal Law, the Ten Commandments, which existed long before the "laws of Moses" were given at Sinai (see The Ten Commandments Before Sinai?), and will always remain in effect for, and be joyfully and willingly obeyed by, the truly righteous. Does this Scripture, for example, that deals with the future, sound like the Ten Commandments are "done away"?

"Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy." Behold, I am coming soon, bringing My recompense, to repay every one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside [i.e. in the lake of fire] are the dogs and sorcerers and fornicators [i.e. violators of the Seventh Commandment] and murderers [i.e. violators of the Sixth Commandment] and idolaters [i.e. violators of the First and Second Commandments], and every one who loves and practices falsehood [i.e. violators of the Ninth Commandment]." (Revelation 22:11-14 RSV)

Humans can only be saved by the grace of God, through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ. There is nothing that we can ever possibly do to save ourselves. We don't have the power to do it, and no amount of "law keeping," or "righteous acts," or "Levitical rituals," or "works" can possibly make God owe it to us. We can't earn salvation. Our salvation is made possible by grace, but whether or not we will be saved depends upon our repentance and obedience to God. God isn't going to grant His gift of eternal life to those who do not obey Him (which would, in effect, create more rebellious, immortal devils, who, like Satan, chose for themselves not to obey God - see Did God Create The Devil?), and most particularly those who teach others not to obey Him. The unrepentant lawless, and their unrepentant teachers of lawlessness, are going to find themselves in the lake of fire with the wicked and lawless Satan.

"Think not that I am come to destroy the Law"

"Think not that I am come to destroy the Law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass [Note: heaven and earth are still here], one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least Commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:17-19 KJV)

"And, behold, one came and said unto Him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And He said unto him, Why callest thou Me good? there is none good but One, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the Commandments. He saith unto Him, Which? [Note: Jesus then went on to clearly identify that by "Commandments," He meant the Ten Commandments] Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Matthew 19:16-19 KJV)

"If ye love Me, keep My Commandments. And I will pray The Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; Even The Spirit of Truth;" (John 14:15-17 KJV)

"We do know that we know Him, if we keep His Commandments"

"My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with The Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His Commandments. He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His Commandments, is a liar, and the Truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked." (1 John 2:1-6 KJV)

"Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth Him that begat loveth Him also that is begotten of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep His Commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His Commandments: and His Commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is He that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is Truth." (1 John 5:1-6 KJV)

Satan Hates The Ten Commandments and Everyone Who Obeys Them

The Scriptures below are irrefutable proof that God's true people have never stopped observing and obeying the Ten Commandments. Just prior to The Return Of Jesus Christ, just as he has always done, Satan is going to target a particular group of faithful, righteous and obedient people of God (see The Elect and What Is A Saint?), those who keep the Ten Commandments:

"And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep The Commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." (Revelation 12:17 KJV)

"If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the Commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them." (Revelation 14:9-13 KJV)
