The Healers

"And He went about all Galilee, teaching in their Synagogues [see Rabbi] and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people. So His fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought Him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and He healed them." (Matthew 4:23-24 RSV)

How Did He Do It?

Holy Bible While being the Son of God, Jesus Christ was also as human as you or I (they could not have killed Him if He wasn't - see also What Did Jesus Look Like? and Could Jesus Have Sinned?), so how did He have the power to heal people, to give them health? (the English word health originated from an old Anglo-Saxon word meaning to heal) The answer is found far back in the Old Testament:

"If you will diligently hearken to the voice of The Lord your God, and do that which is right in His eyes, and give heed to His Commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon you which I put upon the Egyptians; for I am The Lord, your Healer." (Exodus 15:26 RSV)

Jesus Christ healed by the "the power of The Lord," The Spirit Of God:

"the power of The Lord was with Him to heal." (Luke 5:17 RSV)

"God anointed Jesus of Nazareth [see Nazarene] with the Holy Spirit and with power; how He went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him." (Acts 10:38 RSV)

The Holy Spirit of God did the healing; this was made further evident when Jesus instructed His apostles to do the same, by means of the same Holy Spirit:

"He called to Him His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity. (Matthew 10:1 RSV)

"gifts of healing by the one Spirit" (1 Corinthians 12:9 RSV)

But not all were, or are, healed. What was needed for a healing to happen? Faith:

"Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed instantly." (Matthew 15:28 RSV)

"And He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease." (Mark 5:34 RSV)

"And His name, by faith in His Name, has made this man strong whom you see and know; and the faith which is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all." (Acts 3:16 RSV)

Fact Finder: The time comes however when even the most righteous people, even those with the greatest faith, cannot be healed of illness or injury. Why?
