The Clouds of Heaven

At certain times during Bible History, the Divine Presence appeared to humans with, or within, a cloud, or clouds. Examples are the "pillar of cloud" that accompanied The Tabernacle In The Wilderness, and the clouds atop Mount Sinai when The Ten Commandments were formally (i.e. see The Ten Commandments Before Sinai?) delivered by Covenant:

"And The Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night; the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people." (Exodus 13:21-22 RSV)

"On the morning of the third day there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled." (Exodus 19:16 RSV)

The Clouds of Heaven

Mount Of Olives Clouds of heaven, whether natural or miraculous, sometimes depending on which heaven was involved (see Heavens Below, Heavens Above) accompanied, and will accompany, Jesus Christ from the time of His ascension, to when He appeared before God after His ascension, to the time of His Return, and beyond.

God appeared in a cloud at the Transfiguration event where He announced to Peter, James and John that Jesus Christ was His Son:

"And after six days Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother [see The Inner Circle], and led them up a high mountain apart. And He was transfigured before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah [see Why Elijah?], talking with Him. And Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is well that we are here; if you wish, I will make three booths here, one for You and one for Moses and one for Elijah." He was still speaking, when lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with Whom I am well pleased; listen to Him." (Matthew 17:1-5 RSV)

Christ ascended to heaven when "a cloud took Him" from the The Mount Of Olives (shown in the photo). The Mount of Olives will also be "ground zero" for His return (Zechariah 14:4):

"as they were looking on, He was lifted up, and a cloud took Him out of their sight ... This Jesus, Who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw Him go into heaven." (Acts 1:9,11 RSV)

From His ascension, Christ arrived before God "with the clouds of heaven":

"with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and He came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him; His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom one that shall not be destroyed." (Daniel 7:13-14 RSV)

When the time has come (see What Is Jesus Christ Doing Right Now?), Jesus Christ will be given the go ("of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only" Matthew 24:36 RSV) for His Return while "seated on a cloud":

"Then I looked, and lo, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on His head, and a sharp sickle in His hand. And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to Him who sat upon the cloud, "Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe." So he who sat upon the cloud swung his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped." (Revelation 14:14-16 RSV)

Jesus Christ will return and be seen "coming with the clouds" by everyone i.e. The Return Of Jesus Christ will not come secretly, or only known to some - all of humanity alive at that time will see Him:

"Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, every one who pierced Him; and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of Him." (Revelation 1:7 RSV)
