"To Meet The Lord In The Air"

by Wayne Blank

The first resurrection (see Resurrections) will occur at the time of The Return Of Jesus Christ. The dead in Christ (i.e. God's people through all time) will be resurrected to spirit, and those of His people alive that day will be changed to spirit, and together they will ascend into the sky from all directions, "from the four winds," to meet the Messiah, before returning to earth with Him, that same day, to The Mount Of Olives.

"To Meet The Lord In The Air"

The Holy Bible describes the great Day with much detail. Examples:

The Return Of Jesus Christ

"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep [see What Happens When You Die?], that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. For this we say unto you by the Word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet The Lord in the air" (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 KJV)

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in The Clouds of Heaven with power and great glory. And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together [see also Spiritual and Physical Gatherings] His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." (Matthew 24:29-31 KJV)

"And His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west [see Earthquake!], and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south." (Zechariah 14:4 KJV)

"This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years." (Revelation 20:5-6 (KJV)
