Adventures In Prophecy

The English word adventure is derived from the Latin words ad, meaning to, and venturus, meaning arrival. Adventure simply means to arrive. A number of other English words originated from the same root word, including event, advent and covenant.

The Two Great "Adventures" Of Prophecy

The coming of the Christ, the first and the second advents, are both plainly prophesied.

The first coming:

Holy Bible

"For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root [again, see Nazarene] out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him." [see What Did Jesus Look Like?]

"He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God [see Eloi, Eloi, Lama Sabachthani?], and afflicted."

"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." [see also What Did Christ's Cross Really Look Like?]

"All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter [see Passover and The Lamb Of God], and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth."

"He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave [see The Garden Tomb; also Shroud Of Turin: A Miraculous Fake?] with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth."

"Yet it pleased The Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul [see Where Is Your Soul?] an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of The Lord shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities."

"Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession [see What Is Jesus Christ Doing Right Now?] for the transgressors." (Isaiah 53:2-12 KJV)

The second coming:

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in The Clouds of Heaven with power and great glory. And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together [see also Spiritual and Physical Gatherings] His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." (Matthew 24:29-31 KJV)

"For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God [see The Feast Of Trumpets]: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, To Meet The Lord In The Air" (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 KJV)
