The "In The Beginning" Books

The Holy Bible begins with Genesis and ends with Revelation (see also Bible Reading Plan). What is described in the book of Revelation is however merely the beginning of the eternity that awaits those who choose to accept God's offer of salvation (it is "the end" for all who do evil). Many physical things found at the beginning of Genesis are a deliberate foreshadow of spiritual things that will begin, or be fulfilled to a greater extent, in the time described in Revelation. In that sense, both Genesis and Revelation are "in the beginning" books.

"And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever" (Revelation 22:5 KJV)

Genesis - Revelation Parallels

Holy Bible The creation of the heavens and the earth, and the creation of the new heaven and a new earth:

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." (Genesis 1:1 KJV)

"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth" (Revelation 21:1 KJV)

The coming of light, and the coming of the Light:

"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." (Genesis 1:3 KJV)

"And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it." (Revelation 21:23-24 KJV)

When death will have outlived its purpose, death itself will die:

"thou shalt surely die." (Genesis 2:17 KJV)

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Revelation 21:4 KJV)

Humanity began physical life near a river, a foreshadow of the "river of the water of [eternal] life":

"And a river went out of Eden to water the garden" (Genesis 2:10 KJV)

"And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb" (Revelation 22:1 KJV)

The Tree of Life returns:

"And The Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore The Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life" (Genesis 3:22-24 KJV)

"And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations" (Revelation 22:1-2 KJV)
