Babble

Most human babies like to talk, or rather, babble. Sometimes they just babble on, and babble on, and babble on. You may have noticed that "babble on" sounds identical to "Babylon." There is a reason for that, which in fact includes the origin of the word baby itself. "Babylon" is from an ancient Hebrew word that means confusion of speech. From it came the word babble, which means to speak nonsense. Baby is merely an abbreviation for babble.

"Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because The Lord did there confound the language of all the earth"

The Babylon of Religions As would be obvious, the family of humanity ("man" is an abbreviation for humanity) began with a single language. The Lord also blessed man with intelligence, but it was wasted, almost from the very beginning, on an unintelligent effort to defy the Creator.

"And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth." (Genesis 11:1-4 KJV)

The Lord responded to man's defiance in a way that was appropriate, not merely to prevent them from destroying themselves with their own foolishness, but also as a sign of their infantilism - by turning their language into "baby talk." From that came today's "babble" of languages - and religions.

"And The Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

And The Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech."

"So The Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because The Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did The Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth." (Genesis 11:5-9 KJV)

Fact Finder: (a) When will humans be born again? (b) When the Kingdom of God comes to earth, will "Babylon" continue, or is The Lord going to "turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of The Lord, to serve Him with one consent"? (c) Until the Kingdom of God comes, what is the practical purpose of "speaking in tongues"?
